Like everyone else working for the BBC, artists, writers, presenters and other on-air contributors need to be aware of some policies and guidelines that affect your engagement.
BBC Policies
All BBC policies are available under Policies and Guidelines and on the Freedom of Information site.
These include:
- Editorial guidelines
- Child protection policy
- Declaration of personal interests policy
- Bullying and harassment policy
Data Protection & Privacy Notice
The BBC is committed to protecting your personal information.
The Privacy Notice for Contributors explains the following:
- what information we may collect about you;
- how we use information we collect about you;
- whether we will disclose your details to anyone else;
- your rights, and
- contacts
If you are engaged on an employment contract then you should instead refer to the BBC People Privacy Notice.
Credit Guidelines
The BBC's credit guidelines are available on BBC Commissioning.
Insurance for Freelancers
Insurance for Freelancers guidance provides details of BBC insurance arrangements for individuals contracted by the BBC (whether paid on a gross or PAYE basis).
The arrangements also apply to freelancers engaged via a UK Service Company where the Service Company only ever trades in the services of that one individual.
