The Small Indie Fund

The Small Indie Fund ringfences £1million a year to support talented small independent production companies with turnovers of less than £10million. The fund has a focus on diverse-led companies and those based in the Nations and English regions.

In 2025/26 the fund has a dual focus, working across both TV and digital.

In previous years the Small Indie Fund has supported a range of companies, with many going on to receive commissions and foster ongoing relationships with the BBC.

In 2024/25 we exceeded the original budget of £1m, with 33 companies supported through the fund receiving a total of c £1.3m. 76% of the companies were based outside London, with three in both the West Midlands and the North East, and the cohort saw the highest ever number of diverse-led producers – with 79% of companies having at least two individuals in specific leadership roles an under-represented group. Read the press release for a full list of the companies supported in 2025.

In 2023/24 the 57 small companies on the fund included 44 with at least two individuals from underrepresented groups in leadership roles and 38 based outside of London. Read the press release for a full list of the companies supported in 2024.

In 2022/23 the fund supported 48 small companies. Over half of these had diverse leadership and 79% were based in the Nations and English regions, with a significant increase in support for companies based in the North East and Midlands. The Small Indie Fund is part of our commitment to support the creative industries in all four nations and deliver the most distinctive content for audiences.
