Four weeks before TX: information for press and publicity
'PI' or 'Programme Information' for the press is supplied via a good long description in Proteus.
'Good' means it covers those elements that 'sell' the programme to the press, such as cast members or contributors who are well known. 200 words is about right (ie a few short paragraphs). Too little or too much may mean the BBC Press Office can't use your copy.
For episode one of a new series the context should also be given.
Three weeks: print listings
A short synopsis in Proteus covers the requirement, along with a production credit if needed.
Media delivery, compliance and pres details
The deadline relative to TX varies between stations and programmes.
Refer to the technical guidelines for acceptable media file format.
Compliance: all pre-recorded programmes need to be delivered early enough to allow for compliance listening and post-compliance editing.
Refer to the compliance guidance and complete the compliance form in Proteus - see the BBC Academy compliance page
Presentation details: a completed pres details form is required by Radio 3 and Radio 4 at the same time as the media file, or four hours before TX for live programmes.
One week: online listing
Online schedules and programme pages are published one week before TX. By this time the synopsis in Proteus should be as accurate as possible .
Follow the advice in the programme listings guide
TX: descriptions, music information
Descriptions need to be complete and accurate - follow the advice in the programme listings guide
Music track information needs to be complete for 'now playing' and programme track lists. Information on adding music metadata to dira! is given on the dira! page of our support site. There is also a guide to adding music tracks using iBroadcast..
Post TX: music reporting and PasBs
Music played in programmes needs to be reported either via Dira! at time of playout or via Proteus - station staff will be able to advise on which to use.
PasB (Programme as Broadcast) details need to be completed in the RO Items section of Proteus.
