Chelsea won their first silverware 银质奖杯 of the season on Sunday with a victory over Manchester United in the Community Shield 社区盾比赛.

The Community Shield is England’s traditional curtain raiser 开幕比赛 between the last season’s winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup 足总杯.

Though it isn’t seen as a major trophy 大赛, winning the Community Shield is likely to 可能会 give new Chelsea boss Carlos Ancelotti a psychological advantage 心理优势 for the season to come.

His side triumphed 4-1 on penalties 点球决胜 after the game finished all square 平分 at 2-2 at the end of normal time.

Manchester United had taken the lead 领先 in impressive style when winger 边锋 Nani scored from long range after only 10 minutes.

But Chelsea showed their usual grit and determination 勇气和信念 to fight back and score twice through Ricardo Carvalho and Frank Lampard.

In the dying seconds 最后几秒内, United’s striker Wayne Rooney brought the teams level again with a fine finish past Chelsea keeper 守门员 Petr Cech.

It was Chelsea who kept their nerve 保持镇定 in the resulting penalty shoot-out 点球决胜 however, scoring four times while Manchester United could only manage a single goal.

So, first blood 初步领先 to Carlos Ancelotti over Man United who he thinks will be his “most important opponent 对手” this season.

"We found it difficult, but we were better in the second half when we put more strength on the pitch. In the end, we deserved to win 有资格赢得比赛," Ancelotti said.

Ferguson thought that Man United should have capitalised 利用他们的优势 on their early lead and several missed opportunities.

"We should really have put the game to bed," he said. When he says “put the game to bed”, he means that they should have made sure they won the game by taking advantage of their early dominance 优势 in the game and scoring more goals.

Characteristically 一如既往, Ferguson also complained about one of the referee’s 裁判的 decisions which he thought worked against him 对(曼联)不利. His gripe 牢骚、痛诉 was about the referee not awarding Manchester United a free kick 任意球 just before Chelsea scored their second goal.

For Chelsea’s Frank Lampard the result was a perfect start to the season. "This is sweet," Lampard said.

"It feels nice to make a winning start to the season. After that last goal we could have been on a downer, but we didn't let our heads drop."

When he says they didn’t let their heads drop, he means the Chelsea players didn’t lose enthusiasm 热情 and start to play negatively after Manchester United scored their late second goal.

The game was also Manchester United’s first competitive match 竞赛 since the departure of the influential 颇有影响力的 Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

Without his dazzling skills 精彩的技巧 and ability to strike fear into the hearts 让人深感恐惧 of defenders some United fans are wondering how their team will cope without Ronaldo.
