You know when you have an extra slimy spot that gets angry and red... then it explodes? Well that’s kind of like a volcano! When tectonic plates smash together, magma from the Earth's core blasts out, creating huge ash clouds, lava spills and sometimes even new land!

Heres what you need to know:

So much more than a hill,

They are all power,

Got to love a volcano.

(HIKER ONE)

Feeling quite warm,

Baby uh oh,

Are you sure this thing won’t blow?

That would be ace,

Sometimes they make new lands,

When they explode.

Or destroy all that’s in their paths,

I’m scared of volcanoes.

Volcanoes form where the Earth’s crust is weak,

Places it’s thin or where tectonic plates meet,

Rocky magma rises,

From beneath the Earth’s crust.

Then I know what’s next,

Volcano erupts,

Erupted magma is called lava,

And you don’t want it coming for you,

It looks like a huge red river.

Ash, gas and rocks make a hot combo,

That’s called a pyroclastic flow.

If you saw gentle slopes,

Fast lava flow,

You’re on a shield volcano.

Billowing smoke,

Looks like a cone.

Explosively?

They can cause holiday disruptions,
