Watch Jane Austen in Historical Love Island

English novelist Jane Austen introduces the Love Island villa to the rules of Georgian courtship, much to personal trainer Matt's surprise.

Who was Jane Austen?

Jane Austen was a pioneering English novelist who wrote some VERY popular books. Born on 16 December 1775, Jane's novels focussed a lot on the lives of women and female independence - a subject that wasn't often written about in the 18th and 19th centuries. She talked about subjects like romance, love and marriage. Her books were all released anonymously, so she didn't actually get famous until after she died in 1817. Considered one of Britain's best loved writers, Jane Austen wrote many titles, but her most well-known novels include Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma.
