Blue Peter's WEIRDEST moments
Blue Peter is the longest children's television show in the world, so we must be doing something right! However, to achieve the wonderful, sometimes you do have to have a little bit of weirdness! So have a browse of some of the most bizarre things that ever happened on Blue Peter!

1. When Val took a lion for a walk (1969)
In the 1960s Blue Peter asked presenter Valerie Singleton to take a REAL LIFE lion to the shops. Apart from the lion - Valentine - not wanting to be on the lead and nearly taking someone's eye out, we'd like to say it was quite the ROARING success! Geddit?
2. When Mark tried inventions from a "house of the future" (1988)
In 1980 Mark Curry presented an item on what viewers lives might be like in the year 2020. Ummmmm...we loved the idea of an adjustable loo and a levitation room, but somehow it seems unlikely to catch on in the next 2 years.
3. When John and Peter hit each other with rhubarb (1969)
The rules were simple! Stand in a barrel - blindfolded - then one person yells "people" and the other tries to hit them over the head with a stick of rhubarb. Erm...ok then. But John Noakes and Peter Purves seemed to enjoy it!
4. When someone's Dad wrote a song about a Blue Peter cat (1986)
Have you ever been so inspired by a Blue Peter pet you wrote a song about it? Well this man was and this catchy tune ended up being performed on the show. WARNING: this song will be stuck in your head forever...so catchy!
5. When Peter got children to try bodypopping with a robot (1984)
Peter Duncan met a group of children who liked bodypopping and introduced them to a dancing robot (as you do). We love that even the dog tried to join in!
6. When Blue Peter showcased designer loo seats... (1996)
Stuart Miles and Katy Hill enjoyed choosing which loo seat they liked best, then sticking their heads through them. We also enjoy how the loo seats dangle from the studio ceilings like a massive toilet-themed mobile. Classy.
7. When this man bejewelled a vacuum cleaner, a teapot and a hand whisk for an exhibition (1992)
Nobody loves sparkle more than this man, who came on the show to display household appliances he'd lovingly customised with glitter, sequins, feathers and, erm, muscle shells. Yvette Fielding was clearly very impressed!
8. When a magician fired his white rabbit for being terrible
Huff the magic rabbit wasn't so magic. So - in The Apprentice style - his owner decided to fire him live on air. The story doesn't end there, the magician then went on to tell Valerie Singleton that he was replacing Huff with a younger model...oh dear.
9. When Tim made a huge deal about his new haircut (1994)
Tim Vincent's hair was a massive talking point in the 1990s. We imagine it probably had it's own fan club. So it seemed only fitting that when he decided to get a new haircut, he took a camera crew with him and followed that film up by a very hyped up reveal on the show.
10. When Peter turned detective and met some creepy dolls
Off the back of the robbery at the Doll Museum, Peter Purves met some rather terrifying dolls which weren't stolen. We can't think why...
