I’m feeling really homesick, I wish I could give my sister Esme a hug but I can’t leave the school grounds :(

How am I going to speak to Esme now?!

Miss Cackle said I should try to contact Esme the “old-fashioned” way? But I’m not sure what that means exactly.

Using Telegraphs for Morse Code is cool, but way too complicated to understand!

Smoke signals are too noisy and disruptive. I don’t want to be expelled! I need something quieter…how about a message in a bottle?

A letter! I’ve found the perfect way to tell Esme I’m thinking of her.

I understand how you feel about Esmerelda. I miss my friends from my old school. Writing a letter was a great idea! Sybil: Well met, Historygirl. It can be embarrassing if other people read your letters, but that\u2019s why they are sealed in an envelope! I told Esme how much I missed her. I just know she\u2019ll be missing me too!

When homework is hard or I get in trouble, I miss Esme giving me a hug and advising me on what I should do. I\u2019ve been sending her letters every other day just to let her know how much she is missed at Cackle\u2019s. She\u2019s been telling me all about her school, it\u2019s so different! She says she\u2019s proud of me and Ethel. It\u2019s not the same as having her with me, but the letters help!

I\u2019ve been carrying Esme\u2019s letter around in my pocket all day and it\u2019s really helping me feel less homesick. I still miss her, but when I feel overwhelmed, I take out her letter and read it over again. It\u2019s like Esme is giving me a hug.

Hmm, I talked about missing Esme with Ethel but she was busy with a Potions project and told me not to bother her. I was going to leave her alone, but I decided to ask her for a hug. She looked surprised (I don\u2019t think anyone asks her for hugs!) and gave me a big hug. Ethel can be nice when she wants to be.

I know she\u2019s love a present\u2026 But what could I send her? Oh I know, I\u2019ve been experimenting with magical pictures. I\u2019ll send her a picture of me. If I enchant it, my picture will move and wave to her. The mirror booth is all very well, but this way she can keep a picture of me with her always.

It was the summer holidays and I decided to write to her as I knew her address and I got one back. Now we always write to each other in the summer holidays. I think it is an excellent way to stay in contact! I am sure Esme will love yours! Sybil: Well met! I completely agree with you! Summer time can be really hard, especially when you are away from your friends during the summer holidays. Letter are so fun to write and receive, I know that when I get a letter via broom mail (or in the post!) I get really excited. If I\u2019m missing someone, I try to send them a message to let them know I\u2019m thinking of them.
