Get yourself street party ready with our super-easy bunting made from recycled material.

You will need
  • Old material to recycle (this could be unused clothing, recycled fabrics, or any material you can get your hands on!)
  • Cardboard
  • Ribbon or string
  • Scissors
  • Glue, or a needle and thread, or staple and stapler

Step 1

Take some old pieces of material, we used an old blue t-shirt, and make sure your parent or guardian has given you permission to use it for this project 😎

Create a triangle stencil out of a piece of cardboard. You triangle could be long and thin, short and broad, whatever you like the look of best.

Use your stencil to create a guideline of where to cut your material into your triangle shapes.

Cut as many triangles as you need for your bunting this could be 6, 10, or more if you have a really large area to cover.

Step 2

Take one triangle at a time and fold over the top edge to create a loop. Stick your loop down with glue, sew it with a needle and thread or use staples with an adult's help! Cut off any excess material to create the perfect triangle shape.

Feed ribbon through the loop. You can use a pencil, or even a chopstick to help you push your ribbon through. Just like threading a needle!

Repeat this process on all your triangles until you're happy with the length of your bunting. Make sure to leave enough length of ribbon so you can hang it up easily

TOP TIP: If you cut your triangles from the bottom of your t-shirt or material that has a seam (folded up and sewn side of fabric) you won't need to create the loop by folding over your fabric, as you'll see there's already a place to thread your ribbon through.
