Secret picture-reveal Christmas card

The Blue Peter Christmas card of 2020 is finally here and it's another cracker! Make this super cool picture-reveal card to wow your friends and family.

Fold your piece of card and cut in half so you have 2 pieces of A5 sized card.

Using one piece, mark the centre line and fold in the sides, making two doors to your card.

Using the other A5 piece, cut in half, lengthways or horizontally. Then cut one strip in half.

Measure 2cm from the short edge, and mark a line at 1cm and 2cm. Fold along these lines.

Repeat with the other piece of card.

To make the mechanism

Using the folded tabs, place the outside cm on the back and the inside cm on the door side. Close the door.

Make a mark where one of the doors meets the card, in the centre of the card. Draw a line to the two corners to make a triangle shape. Cut this piece out. 

Repeat on the other side.

Stick the tabs into place. Interlock the pointed edges.

Test the doors can open and close, creating a window.

Decorate the mechanism flaps if you wish.

We've made it into a Christmas cracker shape.

Add a photo in the space.

Use the remaining half of the paper to secure the mechanism.

Cut a piece of card to fit the length of the card. Place this underneath the mechanism and draw the outline of the window. Find a circle shape that fits around this and draw and cut out the shape. (We used the bottom of a PVA glue bottle)

Stick the card in position, 1cm from the top and bottom

To make the card pop, we decorated the mechanism with coloured card to make a fetching Christmas cracker.

Try your card out and then decorate how you wish!

Our design has a present shape on the front, which we made using coloured paper, ribbon and star stickers.
