Gregory Isaacs - a prolific life

Gregory Isaacs put out more than 500 albums in a prolific career
A young Gregory Isaacs was a veteran of local talent contests before making his recording debut in 1968.

The tune "Another Heartache" was recorded for Jamaican pioneer producer Byron Lee.

He then performed in the group The Concords and worked with the legendary Prince Buster.

But it was Isaac's solo career which took the local and then global music world by storm.

The 1973 song My Only Lover is credited by many as being the first lovers rock record ever.

By 1974, he had his first Jamaican number one - Love is Overdue.

Isaacs worked with the country's top producers from Roy Cousins to the legendary Lee "Scratch" Perry, notching up hit after hit.

In the late 70s, he signed up wth Front Line Record and appeared in the film Rockers.

In the early 80s, he started his annual appearances at Jamaica's Reggae Sunsplash event.

The song he's best known for - Night Nurse - was released by Island Records in 1982 from the album of the same name. It was recorded at Tuff Gong studio in Kingston, Jamaica.

His greatest success, however, also saw his problem period during which he dealt with drug problems and served a sentence for gun possession.

He told Jamaica's Gleaner newspaper in 2008: "I've been through all kinds of bad and good experiences. Getting involved with drugs and guns wasn't a good one".

He went on to record hits including Rumours (1988), Rough Neck, and One Good Turn (1993).

In a prolific career, he put out more than 500 albums and worked with some of the biggest names in reggae music.
