Hurricane Ike left a trail of destruction in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

But only after it had wreaked havoc and destruction in The Turks and Caicos Islands, Haiti, Cuba and parts of the Bahamas and Dominican Republic.

Ike was just one of several storms to tear through that area this year.

The hurricane season, now at its peak, runs until November 30th.

So far this year, the islands of the Eastern Caribbean, located in what's come to be known as 'hurricane alley', have been spared the ferocity of these weather systems.

But the experts have been cautioning against complacency.

Jeremy Collymore, the Director of the Caribbean Disaster Response Agency, CDERA, says while there are systems in place to cope with the impact of hurricanes, those islands which have so far this year, escaped the wrath of these storms, still need to remain vigilant.
