Soca to the rescue for Grenada
Soca artistes during the recording of Give Some Spice - Show Some Love
The atmosphere among the artistes was "electric"
Kevin Lyttle, Rupee, Edwin Yearwood and Tall Pree are some of the soca stars who are lending their voices to the fund raising drive for victims of Hurricane Ivan in Grenada.

They will be featured on a single called Give Some Spice, Show Some Love, a song that's part of a fund raising initiative by Antigua-based Caribbean Star Airlines.

The airline will donate two dollars from every ticket sold until the end of October to the Grenada Relief Fund.

The two dollar idea was conceived by the airline's marketing department and Trinidad-based public relations consultants Creative Directions, who felt they needed to do something special for Grenadians.

The song was written by Creative Directions consultant Barbara-Ann Alexander and produced by popular arranger Carl 'Beaver' Henderson.

Together, they managed to enlist several of Trinidad and Tobago's top soca artistes - including Machel Montano, Destra Garcia and rapso group 3 Canal - at very short notice.

Give Some Spice, Show Some Love was originally meant to promote the two dollar idea but the public response was so overwhelming it was decided that the song should be sold as a single.

An extended version of the song featuring Kevin Lyttle, Rupee, Edwin Yearwood and Grenada's Tall Pree will also be recorded and released.

These artistes could not be involved last week's recording as they were in New York fulfilling Labour Day Carnival engagements but are reportedly eager to be a part of the fund raising drive.

'Electric atmosphere'

3 Canal's Wendell Manwarren told BBC Caribbean.com the atmosphere among the artistes during the recording session was "electric".

"It was incredible the response of all the people who just fell in, not knowing what it was but just signing on to the fact that we were going to help Grenada."

Later this week, some of the artistes who are part of the project will visit Grenada where they hope to sing the song and uplift the spirit of the Grenadian people.

Give Some Spice, Show Some Love

The rains have come

The winds have gone

Look what's left behind

An empty hand…a broken man

A child without a home!

You must have wished upon a Star

You will smile again

Let's live the dream of the Caribbean

Be a good neighbour, help a friend!

Let's bring back the spice to Grenada

We're going to show some love today

Join hands across the waters

To help you find your way!

Let's give back some love to Grenada

Show it in every way

Join hands across the water

Help them find a way

Grenada you will rise again

Bring it back all nice again

If all the islands join as one

Spice it up under the sun

Show the love!

Make it nice!

Join together!

Give some Spice!
