© Ian Macdonald - "This scene, of a fire range over mantle shelf, reminds me very much of my childhood and consequently of a different age, stretching back - as it does through its own imagery - to the 19th century. However, the photographer in me desires to alter the slightly unbalanced relationships between objects, to square up as it were the off-centredness of things, the tilt of the picture at right for instance. However much I try, I cannot alter those relationships by taking a photograph. Instinctively I feel the difference between a reasonably good photograph and a very good photograph hangs on a sense of balance." (Ian MacDonald)
