| | The Clod Ensemble bring their latest show, Greed, to Bristol Old Vic for its Mayfest. Greed is a romantic comedy created in the style of the great silent movies, which draws on melodrama and slapstick comedy for inspiration.
A dentist and his beautiful young wife are rescued from a life of poverty when they inadvertently discover a miracle mouthwash which promises perfect white teeth for life.
The product is a nationwide hit and the young lovers soon become fabulously wealthy.
Finger of blame
But when the nation's teeth start falling out, the finger of blame is pointed at our heroes.
To ensure a bright future for themselves they must take drastic action. Can they rescue their reputations, their fortune and their marriage? Greed stars Jason Thorpe - who is something of a cult figure after his title role as Sir Gadabout in the ITV children's programme - and Sarah Cameron. In keeping with the silent films theme, the production has no spoken text, instead, captions are projected onto a screen on stage.
The accompanying music - 'an extravagant and unruly spin on the silent movie soundtrack' - is played live by pianist John Paul Gandy. The Clod Ensemble was founded by director Suzy Willson and composer Paul Clark, who writes an original score for each production. | |
