Wildflowers

Orangefield Park

Bloomfield Watch Group are a junior club of the Ulster Wildlife Trust with about 15 enthusiastic members aged 8-12. They get out and about as much as possible and really enjoy practical conservation.

The group have previously undertaken a litter survey and created a litter mural, planted wild flowers, trees and a giant bird table. They also regularly look at wildlife around the park including birds, bugs, bats and plants.

Plans for the Future

Bloomfield Watch Group been awarded a grant to develop their local park and raise its profile throughout the seasons of the year. The funding will enable them to host four seasonal public events with Belfast City Council in Orangefield Park, which they hope will show other local people what nature can be found on their doorstep.

There are also plans to plant more trees and flowers, create log piles and put up biodiversity boxes in order to improve the quailty of life for the wildlife that live in and visit the park.

Wildlife will be showcased on guided nature walks, wildlife spotting as well as by conducting arts and crafts activities, which will be a great way for more local people to get involved in park life.
