Earlier this year we worked with Climate Spring on their new Hot House opportunity - a development lab for scripted long form TV and feature film projects about climate change which is being run in partnership with BFI Network (made possible with National Lottery funding).
Writers were asked for ideas that explore climate change creatively by submitting a one page pitch together with a sample script written for TV, Film or Stage. The deadline was 31st January 2023.
To support applicants we ran an online webinar offering advice on writing a compelling and impactful pitch document. We also discussed how to frame the climate elements of your project within your pitch doc, and took questions.
We're delighted that following the assessment of the applications and interviews with the long-listed writers (in which members of the BBC Writersroom team were involved), the seven writers (including one writing pair) who will take part in the Development Lab have been announced as Maram Ahmed, Mahad Ali, Matt McDevitt, Jess Moore, Joana Nastari & Tommy Ross-Williams (writing pair), Judy Upton.
Five television ideas and one film idea will now move into the Development Lab where the writers will receive three months of development support, comprising of three rounds of notes, research support and virtual one-to-one discussions to support the creative development of their project. At the end of the lab Climate Spring will decide which projects to financially invest in and look for production companies to take them forward.
Congratulations to all the successful writers. We can't wait to see what happens with their ideas!
