Kay Mellor is one of the UK’s most successful writers and the creator of series such as Band of Gold, Fat Friends, The Syndicate and In the Club. It’s no coincidence that all her shows have a strong sense of place and when we asked her about this she told us, ‘I think a writer has to fight for where they want their project to be set.’

Why? Well, in the video above Kay discusses the benefits that a strong sense of place gives a drama and how it helps the actors involved. She also shares advice for where to go if you have a script you’re passionate about and don’t forget, you can watch Fay extol the virtues of writing with anger right now!

BTW - the video above was shot at the TV Drama Writers’ Festival. You can read about the event on a blog written by Hannah Khalil and a more recent entry by Theresa Ikoko. Plus we’ve pics and sound bites from the sessions in our Festival Report.
