BBC Writersroom’s first ever Comedy Room drew to a close yesterday (Wednesday, 16th March). The scheme launched in October, 2015 when 17 up and coming writers were selected from Writersroom’s open talent searches, alongside input from BBC Comedy (TV & Radio).
The aim of the scheme was to encourage and develop the best in new comedy writing and for six months the participants received targeted training and development including workshops, masterclasses and networking events.
The scheme concluded with the 17 talking to and hearing from industry insiders like Steve Pemberton, Mark Freeland, Gregor Sharp and Pam Cavannagh who shared their experience and opinions about the craft and the business.
BBC Writersroom’s Joanna Blake led the scheme and commented, ‘Writersroom exists to help new and up-and-coming writers, so it’s great to see schemes like Comedy Room doing that so successfully. And if any comedy writers didn’t make the final cut for this scheme, they should give some thought to Script Room 11 which is open until early April.’
We’ll be bringing you videos from the guest speakers very soon, alongside top tips from the writers who took part in the scheme.
