Hertfordshire’s very own boutique festival STANDON CALLING takes place near Bishops Stortford next month. Booking manager Tam McLarty dropped by to tell us about their ROAD TO STANDON initiative to give six of the best new artists a performance slot on one of their stages. The one they like best gets to play the main stage itself alongside acts like BATTLES, SPIRITUALIZED and WASHED OUT.

Not to mention Introducing favourites THREE TRAPPED TIGERS whose gobsmacking track “Cramm” got the studio bopping on Monday’s show. While she was with us, Tam recommended a fine new track by the London outfit CITIZENS, who we first played in 2009 and will also be performing at the festival.

We also played the reclusive IFAN DAFYDD - mate of James Blake and fellow graduate from Goldsmiths Uni - thanks to a repeat recommendation from Bethan Elfyn. He’s unusual, not only for his dubstep workout “No Good” with its transcendent manipulation of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m Not Good”, but also for the fact that his only web presence appears to be on Twitter. And from the flourishing North East we gave the new single from Jon Melvin’s UNION CHOIR a repeat spin by way of a taster from this week’s album-length podcast.
