FROM YOUTUBE'S MUSIC TUESDAY
We played an early demo of "The Last Bus" by London band Patch William on Introducing: Fresh On The Net back in late 2007 shortly after the show was first launched. A year later in November 2008 BBC Introducing recorded this performance of the song at Maida Vale. Fast-forward to May 2009 and the mastered version of "The Last Bus" produced by Steve Levine is up for an award at this month's Ivors. As a result, YouTube's Music Tuesday carried this Maida Vale footage today as a recommended pick on the front page. You couldn't ask for a better demonstration of why BBC Introducing matters.
The band look understandably terrified - first UK radio session, BBC's flagship studios, surrounded by lights and video cameras, no appreciative live audience to fire up the adrenaline - no pressures there, then. But at the same time you've got to love Will Adlard's elliptical lyric, yearning vocal and dazzling guitar stylings. By the time they played their recent session for my Friday show the band had grown in more ways than one, with a finished album under their belt and a far more assured performance. Two and a half years on hearing from the earliest version of this song, they're more than ever a band to watch.
