There’s a warm welcome back for Carol Tregorran as she returned to Ambridge for her husband John's funeral. Listeners have speculated about Lynda’s find in Starley’s Copse as well as Roy’s poor job prospects.

Many enjoyed Susan’s discomfort over her missing invitation to Jennifer’s forthcoming soiree. Plus there’s talk of bribery and knitting at the village fete.

Here’s my pick of listener discussions between 24 and 30 July 2014.

Carol Tregorran was welcomed back with open arms, and listeners were delighted – and curious.

I'm loving Carole Tregorran, what designer label is she wearing exactly? #thearchers (@lindasgrant on Twitter)

We need a character verification check - who's an ancient listener? Is it the REAL Carol? #thearchers (@Anne_O on Twitter)

I don't remember her - before my time - but I like her already. It's not everyone who can deal with Susan's and Jennifer's different pretensions in one go. I also suspect that were a few old scores to settle and if you can't settle them when you're just lost your husband, when can you? (Elaine Masters on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Is it Eleanor Bron? #thearchers (@Lintrepid on Twitter)

#thearchers Love, love, love Carol the woman has style and class and knows how to give an elegant swipe at Jenny - someone needed to! (@bookslovebooks on Twitter)

There's obviously a gap in the market for a village Oracle...Peggy's depressed, Jill's feeding Brookfield, Christine is happy with her crosswords and Linda will always be the interloper...Carol could be the one to bring a bit of sense back into Ambridge... (Una Heaney on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Dear Scriptwriters. We ADORE Carol. If we promise to look after her, can she stay? PLEEAASE? #thearchers (@jtwentyman on Twitter)

Eleanor Bron on #thearchers perfection squared. (@janecurzon on Twitter)

I am a bit in love with Carol. I want to get drunk with her, Lillian and Tilly Button #thearchers (@goddessdeeva on Twitter)

Listeners joined Lynda, David and the rest of the SAVE campaigners for their walk along the proposed Route B. However support for the new road seems to be growing

Haha. I spent the weekend (well Saturday) in the rain at a music festival. So this wee walk in the sun will dry me out nicely! (Morag Lonergran on SAVE Ambridge Facebook page)

Go David !! (Rosalind Fish on SAVE Ambridge Facebook page)

I'm against route A, B and C (and D if there is one). They should pack in this Nimbyism and get together with Penny Hassett, Tuppence Flossit or whichever other villages likely to be decimated by alternative routes. Rural solidarity! (Linda Kelly on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Eugh the more they campaign the more I want this whole village flattened #TheArchers#TeamPennyHasset (@kingbagcarrier on Twitter)

I am thoroughly in favour of Route B but wonder if I should be careful what I wish for because BF getting a ton of compensation may be about the only way to make the farm sustainable for the Dopey bloodline in future. And that's bad news for my old age. (cath on The Archers blog)

If this is the end of the storyline then it's somewhat obvious that that is what would happen. I hope plan B dos go ahead and we see how Ambridge has to cope with the new road. It happens in real life. (Mike Linane on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

There was plenty of speculation about Lyndas find in Starley’s Copse

Has Lynda seen the greatest toad wearing his cravat and driving his motor car in a rumbustious manner? If so, the area is a designated Green Lane and cannot be altered or upgraded to a carriage way. (Lynda Everington on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

I think Linda just spotted a #greatcrestednewt sliding across the path... They are planning kryptonite! @BBCTheArchers (@Operissima on Twitter)

A butterfly flaps its wings in Brookfield and there is a new road in Penny Hassett. #thearchers (@RadioAmbridge on Twitter)

News for you Lyndie: We had 6 protected species (also CITES listed) but the planners "took note" & ignored the fact. #YES2Plan B #thearchers (@HiggsBoz0 on Twitter)

Wouldn't bet on the road being stopped....when some rare mouse (or other type rodent) was found near a proposed road around here , the council just built a bridge for it at some astronomical cost......I kid you not (Heidi Griffiths on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

@BBCTheArchers "I think this spells the end of the road....for the road" Will @LyndaSnell ever have a better line in the show! (@MarkBrock on Twitter)

Over at Lower Loxley, listeners suspect that grumpy Roy is on his way to getting his P45.…

laughing at Roy as a wronged Victorian damsel #thearchers (@MrsJBoo on Twitter)

Roy is more temperamental than the average opera diva #thearchers Tell him to take his rotas and go, Elizabeth. (@JasperBarry2 on Twitter)

In last night's #thearchers, The music in Roy's car was "Creep". Love it when diegetic music echoes what we're all thinking (@scottm on Twitter)

*Chants* Fire him, fire him, FIRE HIM LIZZIE. #thearchers (@Firehorse on Twitter)

She won't sack him yet, she can't lose face over the festival, that has to go well for her business, but after that she might cut him loose! (Sue Pidgeon on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Yes but Elizabeth is 50% responsible for this situation. If it was reversed and Roy was the boss 'taking advantage' of his female manager and then not wanting to know after would everyone still feel the same? They both need to sort this out. (Christine Wilson on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Lizzibot is dangling him on a piece of string, she knows he's gagging for it, and she's making him sweat. She was all set for another nibble with him, but now her pheromones are billowing around her, she will have no shortage of suitors, 'Carpet' Burns was sniffing round her the other day. Roy has got to reassert his position, if he can. (Richard Ineson on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Run away to the circus Woy, they'll treat you better #TheArchers (@hugzee on Twitter)

I think one agricultural thing I’m learning from #thearchers is never shag Roy. (@gracedent on Twitter)

Jennifer’s kitchen soiree is at the planning phase and she’s taken her inspiration from Babette’s Feast. Some think she should be looking elsewhere for ideas…

Inspiration from Babette's Feast Jenny, why not try The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover. #thearchers (@nosila_63 on Twitter)

Shouldn't she be recreating the food from Abigail's Party? #thearchers (@CEMichael on Twitter)

She doesn't fool me. Jennifer is no Babette, and she should have stuck to her writing, then maybe she'd be in a position to invite family and friends to her book launch instead of to a 'Look at my state-of- the- art kitchen tap' fest! (Sue Gedge on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Today's Babette's Feast themed episode of #TheArchers was just the weirdest thing I have ever heard. (@ecogray on Twitter)

And so to the Post Office, where Susan Carter’s nose is well and truly out of joint over her missing soiree invitation

#TheArchers "do you want to pass it through?". Susan stretches a hand through a portal to hell (@Odoreida on Twitter)

That's it! Susan's snapped! Hide the elastic bands and letter openers - she could be lethal! #thearchers (@steffscully on Twitter)

Time Susan fought back with her own soiree...pigs in blankets & Vinho Verde anyone? #thearchers (@chinaysa on Twitter)

@BBCTheArchers Wouldn't like to be in Ed's shoes when Susan finds out about the forgotten invitation .She'll feed him to Neil's pigs! (@exryalls on Twitter)

Sunday’s village fete had many cheering Lilian on in her knitting deception, and a few eyebrows were raised after Kirstie Allsopp accepted Jill’s Dundee cake bribe…

#TheArchers featuring @KirstieMAllsopp *and* knitting. Better than Christmas. (@FionaHogg on Twitter)

Lilian's knitting: knit one, pearl one, puff on fag, slurp some gin, knit one err knit how many? #thearchers (@paulineWallin1 on Twitter)

Who knew @KirstyMAllsopp was so easily bought, eh? #TheArchers#DundeeCake (@Kahnjohnson on Twitter)

Love @KirstieMAllsopp so much, had to listen to last night's #thearchers again. Such fun. (@LadyDanni1 on Twitter)

So sad didn't get to hear the "dunk the vicar" (Henry B Moffatt on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
