Tom and Johnny are the new residents of 1 The Green. While 18-year-old Johnny is thrilled with this bachelor pad, for Tom it has brought back bittersweet memories.
Tom last lived there with Kirsty and we all know how that ended. Ever since, Tom has kicked himself for ending their relationship, and for ending it in such a dramatic and public way.
Before his co-habitation with Kirsty, 1 The Green was Tom’s love nest with Brenda. Her purple kettle lives on there to this day. They were engaged in 2009 but four years later, still yet to get married, their relationship hit the rocks. Brenda called it off; Tom had always wanted a family but she didn’t want to have children. Tom hoped they could repair their relationship but Brenda couldn’t see how and moved out.

With Tom taking on his third tenancy of 1 The Green, we’ve had a look at who else has lived there over the years.
After Tom and Kirsty’s split, Ed and Emma moved in with George, Keira and Holly, the dog. It would have had memories for Emma as it’s where she grew up. In 2014, Ed and Emma enjoyed hosting a Grundy family Christmas in the small house while they looked forward to their wedding day. However, their joyous domestic bubble burst a few months into the new year when Ambridge was devastated by floods. 1 The Green had to be gutted to repair the damage.
Since 2008, Will Grundy has been the landlord of 1 The Green. He bought it off property developer Matt Crawford and before him it was the Carters’ family home.
During Neil and Susan’s time there, 1 The Green had an avocado-coloured bathroom suite. Susan called it olive and after they sold the house to Matt, she was horrified to see it chucked in a skip.
Now Tom and Johnny are to make it their own. The TV and games console are already set up. How will this uncle and nephew duo fare as housemates? Can the memories they create there overwrite Tom’s heartbreak that’s entwined with 1 The Green?
