This Christmas, Ambridge residents will be packing the Village Hall to see Lynda Snell's production of Blithe Spirit. And BBC Radio 4 listeners will be able to join them as never before, as the whole production will be broadcast on Boxing Day.

Previously, we have heard extracts of the Ambridge Christmas shows and pantomimes, but this will allow us not only to eavesdrop on the backstage shenanigans, but also enjoy the a full-length adaptation of Noel Coward’s classic story. Julian Rhind-Tutt will play Charles Condomine, the novelist who is haunted by his dead wife after an eccentric clairvoyant accidently summons her.

Julian will be joined by regulars from The Archers cast, including Carole Boyd (Lynda), Joanna Van Kampen (Fallon), Charlotte Martin (Susan) and Michael Cochrane (Oliver).

Blithe Spirit can be heard at 2.15pm on Boxing Day.

Keri Davies is an Archers scriptwriter and web producer.
