“Prescribed by doctors to the schadenfreude-deficient.” The Archers Listener Discussions to 30 January 2015.

Radio 4

#Phoebe and Kate trended on Twitter as social media rumbled with the words ‘Go Phoebe!’ this week. Kate got her comeuppance, Lilian was alone and Ed made a difficult decision....

Wowie... thursday's #TheArchers should be prescribed by doctors to the schadenfreude-deficient for a huge boost. [@isaacq on Twitter]

Clever use of "Mum" for Hayley and "Kate" for naughty mummy. Good old Phoebe. What a journey: I remember you being born. [@jenniferbee33 on Twitter]

Go Pheebs, go! Enough of that green tea malarkey - get off to Brum where it's proper builder’s! [@GreenPetticoat on Twitter]

It's true, she hasn't had a happy life. But then, both her parents are serial adulterers. Poor lamb. She's as much a victim as Phoebe. "Man hands on misery to man, it deepens like a coastal shelf" (may be misquoted!) [Ali Woodlands on Facebook]

Phoebe is now outraged with both her birth mother & father! Hayley can offer her a shoulder to cry on but she is going to have to find a way to co-exist with them eventually, even if they are a pair of muppets! [Maggie Mumford on Facebook]

And we asked if you had any sympathy for Kate. But the response was so inconclusive we couldn’t for the life of us tell what you really thought…

No [Stephen Mirfin on Facebook]

Nope!!! [Gerri Green on Facebook]

No [Nicola Coulter on Facebook]

Do I stuff [Magapanthus Smith on Facebook]

Sympathy for Kate NO just for everyone else who is unfortunate enough to be related to her [Margaret Hall on Facebook]

Meanwhile, Lilian was “all alone without my Tiger.” But what next for Pusscat?

"Pussycat ears - at her age!" Thought Brian was talking about Lilian for a minute. #thearchers [@doubleagent73 on Twitter]

I can't remember which clever poster pointed out that with Lillian now rattling round the Dower House it's the perfect get-out for the Brookfield sale to fall through and Mr. Elliot buying her out. I do hope that won't mean her riding off to Costa Rica but rather moving in with Carol, and maybe getting Hearherpet in there too to set up Ambridge's answer to the Golden Girls... The marmalade, the potions, the G&T's.... PC Burns will be permanently round there with a warrant… [Richard Gilbert on Facebook]

And Ed said goodbye to four of his cows, while Susan 'I never nag' Carter was on hand with some measured advice for Emma…

Can we please get a crowdfunder going for Ed? I feel terrible about this. @BBCTheArchers #Archers [@LottieRuggEasey on Twitter]

My usual response to this episode: Shut up, Susan. [Anne Massey on Facebook]

Emma...don't listen to your mother!!! [Lorna McLaren on Facebook]

Susan dosnt give gentle nudges , she uses both feet [Dave Barraclough on Facebook]

... and both elbows! [Nigel Cropper on Facebook]

But has he told her about ALL his debt... ? Having said that - & I've said it before - I think there *is* a market for the 'farm to doorstep' small dairy farmer. He obviously has the livestock care under control, but he needs someone with marketing flair to present his product better... [Marc Catchpole on Facebook]

“It’s important for any public servant to be in amongst the people he serves.”

We were joined on Wednesday night for a Q&A with James Cartwright aka PC Burns. Find out whether he thinks Fallon and Burns will last the course, and whether he'd arrest Rob Titchener...
