Brookfield's future, cake concerns and Jennifer’s role in helping Phoebe to pick up the pieces after Hayley left Roy were all under discussion this week.
Helen's decision to give up work had many shouting at the radio – but not everyone thought it was such a bad idea. In other news, listeners debated whether Lynda should ditch the panto this year... Oh no she shouldn't?
Here’s my pick of the listener discussions between 9 and 15 October 2014.
Everyone’s talking about Brookfield’s future – should David and Ruth leave? Should Heather move to Ambridge? Most think that Jill should stay, if only to ensure a plenteous supply of cake…
NO WAY would I let my brothers get first baggsie on my cake-making mum #thearchers (@Felix_keeps_on on Twitter)
Put your foot down, Jill. Just say, off you go you two, I'll stay here with my friends, thanks, you blithering idiots.#thearchers (@ElizabethBangs on Twitter)
I totally appreciate this storyline. David's exploring options. It's what people in relationships do. He may have no intention of going through with it but he's not going to tell Ruth that. Seems perfectly plausible to me. (James Lucey on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
I think it is very unfair on Jill, it is her life, and family, in Ambridge. When did Ruth's Mother ever care about them, she was too busy going on her cruise's and holidays. If anyone has to move it should be Ruth's Mother. (greyscorpio on The Archers blog)
Of course everyone feels for Ruth over her Mum, but how was tearing the family up by the roots really ever going to help Heather? (Elaine Masters on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
There's loads of potential in this storyline and I'm looking forward to it unfolding, however long that takes. I just hope poor old Heather is going to be OK, I've always been rather fond of her. (Borsetshire Blue on The Archers blog)
I'd volunteer to be Ruth's mum's carer rather than them leave Ambridge! @BBCTheArchers (@LucyHart on Twitter)
Heather should move down....not Jill.....Jill IS. The archers!!! (Caroline Williams on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Listeners were all ears as the Archer siblings arrived for the Brookfield family meeting, and applause as Kenton asked, “when do I get my share of the cash?”
Quite rightly Shula, Kenton & Elizabeth r indignant about David & Ruth's plans to sell Brookfield- they have an emotional stake #thearchers (@SocialistGreen on Twitter)
Am I the only one who thought Kenton's question was fairly reasonable?! In his shoes I would be reminding people of my rights even if it was just to stop them selling! (Sara AttwoodJones on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
#thearchers Good for you Kenton!!! Stick that in your pipe, David!!! (@AEC0303 on Twitter)
Over the years I forget how much I dislike Elizabeth. For someone who one expects to metaphorically "buy the farm" at any time due to her heart condition she seems extraordinarily durable given her angst ridden displays of profound selfishness.I sometimes wonder whether Nigel jumped! (Village Pump on The Archers blog)
#thearchers No booze, no fighting, no dredging up slights from a decade ago and done in 10 mins. What kind of family meeting was that? (@moonbug11 on Twitter)
Toes curled as Roy tried to mend his marriage to Hayley. And as Hayley drove away from their home, most thought the wrong person was leaving
Roy's going to end up wearing his Harvest supper #TheArchers (@cha0tic on Twitter)
Wooooo she's leaving him?! Glad someone in Ambridge has a backbone. Take a note David. #thearchers(@LadyDanni1 on Twitter)
Hayley don't leave - throw him out, he's the idiot!!! #thearchers (@Furtherfrom on Twitter)
The writing for Hayley and her acting has been so good and true to life. I find it really painful. (Penny Hassack on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
As Phoebe turned up on Jennifer’s doorstep, many wondered what advice she would get from her grandmother. Jennifer’s barbed comments to Brian delighted almost everyone
So what advice can the wife of an adulterer give to her grandchild traumatised by a philandering father..? #thearchers (@clloid on Twitter)
@BBCTheArchers Jennifer Aldridge: coping with other people's affairs since........well,whenever #thearchers(@neolithicsettle on Twitter)
At the beginning of that ep, that is genuinely the first time I've ever heard Jenny wrong-foot Brine. #thearchers (@gingabeans on Twitter)
That's right Jenny! Good opportunity for a wee bit of knife turning!!!!! (Carole Seheult on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
An outcry followed Helen’s decision to give up work and devote her time to looking after Rob and Henry. Though a few wondered what all the fuss was about…
@BBCTheArchers Is it just me? I don't see what's so bad about a woman wanting to give up work to bring up her child. (@cleocairn on Twitter)
#thearchers oh sod work I'd love to be a 50's housewife! Would love someone to keep me! #getoverthe60sPat(@lesleycraske on Twitter)
I give it about 10 minutes before she is bored out of her tiny mind #thearchers (@parmavi0lets on Twitter)
Eek! Echoes of Kinder, Kirche und Kuche there, Helen @BBCTheArchers (@maryoxford on Twitter)
Not often I shout at the radio but Helen .... too ridiculous. Put a dead rat in his slippers dear, while they wait and warm. And put out a call to Jess - solidarity ladies, please! (Celia Saywell on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Listening to #TheArchers. Shouting NOOOOOOOO at the radio and at Helen #stressedatseven (@Rosehill_girl on Twitter) )
@BBCTheArchers Damson jam ... fresh flowers on the dresser ... you are REALLY beginning to scare me now Helen ... I mean, REALLY scare me. (@Catheri07777863 on Twitter)
I'm afraid I don't find Rob half as creepy as Helen. I know he is manipulating her but she is so wet (Sarah Gravett on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
And in other news, Lynda’s decision to ditch the panto this year (after only two silent characters turned up for audition) caused an outcry
Oh come on, Lynda--Molly Button and Derek Fletcher are the Astaire and Rogers of Ambridge! #thearchers (@archerslistener on Twitter)
Nooooooo #lindasnell you can't !Your direction of the panto the highlight of my year! #thearchers (@NatalieHarris on Twitter)
Please keep the pantomime. It's hilarious (Ann Stokes on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
There'll be no Christmas show in Ambridge this year' >> MARCHING BAND, TICKER TAPE PARADE, CELEBRATION MAMBA' #thearchers (@sarahgailbrand on Twitter)
Tradition be damned; a change is as good as a rest and I for one will not miss Lynda's "It's panto season and I wont take no for an answer" attitude (Moira Hunter-Liddle on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
They've cancelled the Ambridge panto? ??
OH NO THEY HAVENT. .... (David Nicholls on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
