“Shula got her equine swimming pool after all.” The Archers Listener Discussion to 8 March.

Radio 4

‘Ambridge’ ‘Scruff’ and ‘Freda’ trended on Twitter, the omnibus was transformed into an omniboat and the tweetalong was renamed the splashalong for one week only [by @onions77]...

Well what a night! At least Shula now has her equine swimming pool and at no extra cost!! [Liz Cramer on Facebook]

Eddie Grundy reckoned it was caused by the new houses in Hollerton. But you had different theories...

And there was I thinking that Matt's body would be blocking the culvert whilst Russian Mafia spend Lilian's money. [Paul Tapley on Facebook]

What's that Jess? You pinched the hardcore truck and dammed the Am with 20 tons of rubble? Tut... #TheArchers [@PaulMarks12 on Twitter]

Up at Grey Gables little George Grundy takes his Charlie doll out of the toilet eyes glazed and smiling [goddessdeeva on Twitter]

Stormageddon is obviously God's wrath at St Shula's perjury on behalf of the evil Rob Titchener. Perhaps Daniel will be leading the army in on a rescue mission. [Geoff Buck on Facebook]

Much concern was voiced on behalf of various residents

Look, should I be panicking about Ruth, or David? Worrying about 'em both is just too stressful, darlings! [@maggyg71 on Twitter]

I couldn't get any sleep last night worring about Brian's wine cooler. [@salvatorRosa on Twitter]

Especially Scruff

Am worrying about Scruff. #savethedog @BBCTheArchers [@JPicardie on Twitter]

Am I really anxious about a missing sound effect? Yes I am. #Scruff #thearchers [@stoneflowerjane on Twitter]

But not so much Rob…

#titchynob has been hit in the rollocks? Justice at last. #thearchers @BBCTheArchers [@TonysConsultant on Twitter]

Christine is my hero for knocking Rob out by falling on him! [Sue Pidgeon on Facebook]

I do hope the evil Rob won't bump off Peggy before she changes her will & Helen loses the Lodge. #vividimagination #thearchers [‏@allisonpearson on Twitter]

Negatives from #thearchers this week. Lots of sheep drowned, Scruff missing. Rob neither drowned nor missing. @BBCTheArchers [@AnneLiddon on Twitter]

… or Kate

Can I check that Kate isn't safe? *lives in hope* [@Abnormal4norflk on Twitter]

Was worried about Aldridges then realised they can all stay afloat on Kate's inflated sense of self-entitlement #thearchers [@StickBobblecart on Twitter]

And many people remembered their own experiences of previous floods

We were nearly flooded a few years back and when you see the water speeding your way and moving bridges only a few yards from your home, it is dramatic, full of potential for diaster and you do get very shouty. [Elaine Baldy on Facebook]

I have farming friends who experienced a cataclysmic flood (in New Zealand) who behaved EXACTLY as this lot are doing. I think this is very well researched and am loving it…. [Jane Rushby on Facebook]

Touching for us as we had our own cow evacuation @westyeo when Moorland flooded. [@Hippiepig on Twitter]

Offers of help er flooded in to help the beleaguered residents of Ambridge

Seems right that we organise a bitcoin justgiving site 2 collect virtual funds 2 help those in need in Ambridge #theArchers [@nh247 on Twitter]

Are bob geldof &midge ure writing a song to raise much needed aid due to floods? #AmbridgeAid2015 [@OldeCuriosity on Twitter]

Now on Radio 4, an appeal from the Distasters Emergency Committee on behalf of the residents of Ambridge, Borsetshire #TheArchers [@TrentEndJack on Twitter]

Do we go to Borchester? We went to Surrey and Kent immediately [@NatFloodForum on Twitter]

And finally... a collected sigh as the sun shone on Ambridge

The music at the end was the best bit of the Archers in ages. Took me back. [Jean Welsh on Facebook]

David being emosh like a proper golden age of Hollywood diva = awesome. [@pamflet on Twitter]

Were the clear little tweets at the end Davids beloved Robins? #thearchers [@bar_spn on Twitter]

Ok David so The Archers it is then - not the Aldridges or the Northumbrians #thearchers [@LadyMcGlinchey on Twitter]
