Bedecked with every kind of seasonal decoration, the village of Ambridge is radiating with festive spirit. The twinkling Christmas lights in the houses around The Green help light the way of homeward-bound revellers as they find their bearings after a merry time in The Bull.
If recuperation is needed, get yourself to The Ambridge Tearoom for a hot mug of something and a delicious sweet treat made by the baking goddesses that are Fallon and Emma. And if you’re very, very good you might have the chance to meet Father Christmas while you’re there...
The only place yet to have a Christmas tree in situ is Bridge Farm. It has become a tradition there for the family to decorate the tree together on Christmas Eve. This year, the new addition to the family, Jack Anthony Archer will be experiencing it all for the first time. It’s set to be a cosy occasion after a testing year for this branch of the Archers. Although, with Rob’s recent unexpected appearance at Bridge Farm, can Helen truly relax?
At Brookfield, Ruth’s desire to have all her family together on the big day has been shattered by Pip’s announcement that she will be spending it with Toby. Pip insists the only way they can all have a good time is if they keep out of one another’s way (that’s the Christmas spirit!). Like a lit Christmas pudding, the Brookfield farmhouse is encircled by an impermeable border – the flames of Jill’s wrath keep Pip and Toby at bay.
Meanwhile, at Home Farm every member of the family will be under the same roof but, as we all well know, that’s no guarantee for familial harmony. Particularly with the delicate peace at the Aldridge seat of power disrupted by Brian’s plan to buy more land. It’s what’s drawn Debbie over from Hungary. Since hearing her daughter’s plans, Jennifer has gone all whirling dervish in her Christmas preparations.
For the Grundys, Christmas is extra tricky this year with the rent for Grange Farm due on Boxing Day. So, if you come across a father and son duo touting bunches of mistletoe be sure to make a purchase.
Shula and Alistair are set to have a relaxed time of it. With Dan away, it’ll be just the two of them. Not a scenario you would think Shula would relish and yet this year she’s positively cooing over it. A recent rapprochement at the Stables has led to Alistair playfully hinting at what he’s bought Shula for Christmas. Could this be the year that Alistair shuns the useful gadgets section at Underwoods?
As Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year, there’s a chance to check in with the festive goings-on in Ambridge. Plus, if you’re already in need of sanctuary by 11:15am look no further than The Archers Omnibus. So, as well as the traditional festive gluttony there’s also the opportunity to pig-out on time in Ambridge! Merry Christmas!
