One of Ambridge’s defining traits has to be the considerable amount of baking in the village, which has to be way above the national average. But we may see a brief blip in Ambridge’s cake-creating record because when some stalwarts of the Ambridge Women’s Institute got a call from Comic Relief their kitchens briefly fell silent.

Jennifer, that Genoise will have to wait! Lynda, you’ll have to start that batch of Macaroons later! Comic Relief needs you to model their new apron!

Stepping up to the plate, Jennifer, Lynda, Susan and Jill showed off the new apron which features a selection of quirky animal portraits.

Rankin, who designed this year’s Red Nose Day attire said; “I wanted to make these images as cute and fun as possible and I hope I have included something for everyone which encourages both adults and children to get in the kitchen and raise some dough for Comic Relief.”

After their turn under the photographer’s lights, the WI foursome were keen to get back to their latest bakes. We managed to grab a quick word with Jill as she hot-footed it out of the Village Hall. "We hope the aprons will carry the Comic Relief message into tens of thousands of kitchens and help countless lives both here in the UK and in Africa,” she said.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me I must get another cake on the go before David consumes every last crumb in the Brookfield larder!”
