Listeners were moved by Tom and Tony’s heart-to-heart, more than a little gleeful at Kirsty’s dress drama and speculating rather a lot about the outcome of “The Wedding of the Year”.

In other discussions, as Ambridge celebrated Easter, Chris was upstaged by Jazzer during the Passion Play. Meanwhile, there were jeers for Shula versus cheers for “forceful” Dan as he stood firm about going to Sandhurst.

Here’s my pick of the listener discussions between 17 and 23 April 2014.

As Tony and Tom put their differences aside briefly, many listeners were moved by their chat as well as by several recent mentions of John.

Lovely father son moment. Say the right thing #Tom. #Tony @BBCTheArchers #John (@amoc44 on Twitter)

Evoking memories of John Archer and Mark Hebden tonight, a bit reflective there #thearchers (@nosila_63 on Twitter)

Well I loved tonight's ep. Reflecting about John was v moving. Shula getting practical... touching too. (Sally-Ann Howard on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Back to the Tom Tony scene, which I thought was really touching. Time they finally had an adult chat and good to hear Tony giving his son a bit of praise and support at last. The pig empire was created because Tom took up the challenge when his brother died. (Caroline Stevens on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Giving John a mention in that way; a very sensitive touch. Tom is emerging as a more rounded figure. (Paul McLean on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

felt a bit sad when Tom was in the graveyard. sometimes you never stop missing people. (Carol O’byrne on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Have to say, John's death, its long-term effect on the family, their struggle to survive it, has kept me interested for 16 yrs #thearchers (@ElizabethBangs on Twitter)

Oh dear, weling up a bit ... #thearchers (@swisskale on Twitter)

The dress! Kirsty didn’t get quite the same support in her moment of need. In fact, many listeners saw Henry as their hero after he spilled his drink on Kirsty’s expensive wedding dress, though some haven’t ruled out sabotage on Helen’s part.

Henry is now the best Archers character ever. Sending fan mail. #TheArchers (@mike__smith on Twitter)

Think Henry deserves an extra Easter egg for that one!! He he he! (Lynn Aconley on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Well, dark drink, small child who is not given boundaries and white dress is fairly obvious. Not so much of Helen coming the rescue as trying to make up for her problems (Fiona Jones on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

The blood curdling screams almost made me jump out of my skin, twice, and I was eating my dinner! (Janice Betson on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Surely someone would be able to have a crack at cleaning it up before Thursday? Or dying it - Kirsty could've done a Morticia Adams in purply black but she'd have needed to change the colour of her nail varnish. That would've given Tom a surprise at the lych gate. (cath on The Archers blog)

Henry can always be relied on. In fact I think he's Helen's 'shadow' (in the Jungian sense). (Cathy Simpson on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Helen never did like the posh frock did she? Was it a deliberate move by giving Henry his juice right next to the dress?! (Rosemary Taylor on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Helen would have liked the posh frock...for Helen. (Margaret McKay on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

With the dress, the weather, the photographer and Alice’s balloon arch troubles, listeners continued wondering just what sort of wedding Tom and Kirsty were in for.

There are more omens than guests at this wedding (Jane Oliver on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Who's running the book on whether it's Tom or Kirsty who runs out on this wedding??? #thearchers (@Oneshowywoman on Twitter)

Preparations continue for the Doomed Wedding. Somewhere in a posh London flat, Brenda Tucker does a rain dance... #TheArchers (@MsMigot on Twitter)

I'm torn between wanting the wedding to be perfect for poor Kirsty and wanting something bad to happen because Tom is so...Tom-esque. (Siobhan Higgins on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

So.....everything's gone wrong that could go wrong - dress, photographer, venue, balloons, bridegroom having second thoughts, rain, thunder etc etc. Therefore......everything is going to be alright on the day! (Maureen MacGregor on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

I will never forgive #thearchers if the wedding doesn't happen. In tears listening to Tom pouring his heart out. (@Shoegalsedgwick on Twitter)

I'm a romantic, please can we have a happy ending?! (Rosemary Taylor on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

#TheArchers I’m imagining Krusty on the floor of church mascara running down her cheeks in a ruined wedding dress bitterly stabbing balloons (@ThatJoelfella on Twitter)

Something's definitely going to go horribly wrong with that wedding. And I for one can't wait. #thearchers (@ClaireWithAn_I on Twitter)

It's great fun speculating the outcome of The Wedding of the Year. (Karen Hudson on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Today is merely an exercise in surviving until Tom and Kirsty's wedding on @BBCTheArchers at 7pm. The tension exhilaratingly agonising. (@Gary_Gillatt on Twitter)

The Passion Play brought plenty of praise for Jazzer, as well as some concerns about Chris and whether he ought to be bearing the cross.

JAZZER! IT'S JAZZER! Lovely Jazzer klaxon #thearchers (@Ifwehadanyham on Twitter)

I quite fancied Evil Roman Jazzer. I think I need to get out more. #thearchers (@jogee76 on Twitter)

Good episode tonight. The Passion was good and it's always a treat to hear Jazzer inject some character and diversity into proceedings. (Stephen Āh Burroughs on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Chris has been getting tips on how to be a martyr. From Jennifer, Tony, Susan, Shula... #TheArchers (@ExeterDormouse on Twitter)

@BBCTheArchers Didn't Chris have a serious chest injury a little while ago? Carrying the cross is surely a v bad idea.#thearchers (@knitty1956 on Twitter)

Was it just me, or was The Passion of The Chris on Friday an all-time weird episode? #thearchers (@paultrueman74 on Twitter)

The “shut-up, Shula” chants grew ever louder this week, though some listeners sympathise with her struggle. As for Dan, he won support from near and far, far away.

Noooo Shula...not one of your best ideas, stop hanging onto the apron strings, he won't thank you for it! (Janet Halliburton on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

wave a white flag shula why don’t you (Andrew Morgan on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

I've realised I should just schedule "oh Shula, do shut up" to tweet automatically every 4 days. #thearchers (@louloudillon on Twitter)

Come on now Shula, it's obvious Dan has made his mind up. However you feel, it's time to let him go with a good grace and give him your blessing now. (Elaine Masters on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Get a life Shula, most parents would be proud if their Son was accepted for Sandhurst. (Sheila Reid on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

I know Shula means well, but she's starting to get on my nerves #thearchers (@markalannixon on Twitter)

@BBCTheArchers Huzzah for Dan! Imagine Shula being your mother... (@AnneLayzell1 on Twitter)

Go Dan... listening in Cyprus and loving his forcefulness. (Sarah Gravett on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
