The Archers Listener Discussions to 28 November 2014
Radio 4
This week, Archers fans have been setting their Advent alarms for Boxing Day, after the announcement that Lynda Snell’s production of Blithe Spirit will be broadcast in full on BBC Radio 4, at 2:15pm.

Julian Rhind-Tutt
Julian Rhind-Tutt will join the Archers cast as they recreate Noel Coward’s ghostly masterpiece. And this has gone down very well indeed:
Oh ! Subtle! Helen is being type cast in Blithe Spirit! .....being driven mad by the ghost of the first wife! Weren't we all?!!! (Elaine Edmonds on Facebook)
How wonderful. Clever Archers. (Jamie Ackerley on Facebook)
Love that play within a play theme. Sounds good. (Lynda Everyington on Facebook)
What a triumph for Lynda! Larry Lovell eat your heart out! (Maarten van den Heuvel on Facebook)
We asked Archers fans on Facebook to name their favourite Archers storyline, and in reverse order, Rob and Helen’s relationship came third, the heartbreaking death of John Archer was second, and the winner was Brian’s affair with Siobhan.
Brian tells Siobhan how much she means to him.

The most discussed moments in the week concerned the agreement to accept Justin Elliot’s offer to buy Brookfield from David and Ruth Archer for £7.5 million.
If Kenton doesn't say "kerr-CHING!" When he finds out how much Brookfield is being sold for then I don't know what is going on. (@CelloSuze on Twitter)
He'll be able to replace Jolene's fringed suede outfits! (@willemharvey on Twitter)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let Clary win #euromillions jackpot and buy Brookfield #naturaljustice#karma#beacauseshesworthit :-) (@LodgeinKippford on Twitter)
I have just been thinking that there are similarities between the current storyline about the sale of Brookfield and Chekhov's Cherry Orchard. In the latter, the family is anguishing about whether to sell off their house and cherry orchard to a property developer (who used to be the son of a serf). They finally do so but (this should be a warning to Bert Fry) they lock up the house and leave their ancient retainer inside, possibly to die a lonely death. Just saying! (Bob Cant on Facebook)
David & Ruth, I am so disappointed in you. Pip & boys, too. Actually, make that disgusted with all of you. Money over morals.(@Lisa725 on Twitter)
I want David and Ruth to leave now. Invest all their money in an automatic milking parlour only it breaks down, they loose their millions and end up living in Meadow Rise. (Plain Jane on Facebook)
We asked the question, “In Rob’s position, would you do things Tony’s way or your own way?” And this was the response:
*I* would do it Tony's way. But then I'm not a controlling psychopath. (Much.) (@MsPerson on Twitter)
And Tom’s return really put the Simmental among the Angus:
I hope Johnny will put him in the picture regarding Rob's plans for bringing in Simmental cows and any other changes he had in mind for Bridge Farm. If Tom really means he wants to farm like his Dad he'll have to be strong to face up to Rob.......and Helen. (Jean Bell on Facebook)
Did we say Tom? He’s back, with a new outlook, a fresh perspective, and, well, a new voice too; courtesy of William Troughton:
Keep it in the family, then..... there'll be more Troughtons than Archers soon! (@ambridge_addict on Twitter)
Tom home 2mins #thearchers NOT ONCE mentioned 'moving the business forward' or sausages! How much more evidence needed this man is a FAKE! (@Londonworms on Twitter)
With Doctor Who's son & grandson in #thearchers one wonders if Justin Elliot will soon be unmasked as The Master? (MrStevenMoore on Twitter)
Missy Elliot! (@emza1972 on Twitter)
Pip wants robots to milk the cows, cyber Men? (@Pop_Pendeton on Twitter)
Todd Foster came to visit Adam, and had some fairly direct words about Route B:

Business needs roads
And the two of them discussing high yield crops fair made a few heads spin:
The agricultural story editor earning his high yield winter sown black grass infested spring wheat with a cover crop tonight. (@jamspangle on Twitter)
Just finished looking up all the farming references in today's @BBCTheArchers. Since when did this become a programme about farming? (@davidboyden on Twitter)
Let’s end on a musical number. Susan’s line “counting the cars on the Borchester bypass” sounded curiously familiar to Simon and Garfunkel fans, and soon there was a full-scale singalong:
"all gone to look for Northumberland " (@Yorkshireowl on Twitter)
I recall something about the Penny Hassett Turnpike... (@Susanna_Taylor on Twitter)
she thought the man in the suit was a spy ( for borchester land) (@Pollock1Bob on Twitter)
Hello Archers my old friend... (@MsPerson on Twitter)
I've come to Borchester again..... (@Chessler_ on Twitter)
