Grey Gables
Oh dear. You can see why Caroline was unhappy about this review from a hotel comparison site…

We were tempted to visit Grey Gables in Ambridge for a special anniversary meal, under the impression that it was a high class establishment. Well, what a mistake that was. It certainly has pretentions to fine dining, and to be fair our food was of high quality but the meal was ruined by some sort of Mexican extravaganza going on right next to my lady wife and I. Roadside caterers give a better standard of service – at least they don’t subject you to blaring trumpets and guitars. Conversation was almost impossible and what ambience there might have been was ruined by carousing diners in ponchos and sombreros – many of dubious authenticity, I might say. The terrible evening was rounded off by the attendance of the paramedics, not for me I’m pleased to say, although I wouldn’t have been surprised if I’d had a fit given what we’d had to put up with, but for a drunken old man in a ridiculous moustache who came a cropper exiting the gents. A memorable occasion for all the wrong reasons.
