Ruth comes under fire from listeners this week – perhaps she’ll understand how Roy feels? Most loved Phoebe’s rant, and Joe’s touching visit to Brookfield.
And who will produce the most entertaining Christmas show? Lynda or Eddie?
Here’s my pick of the listener discussions between 16 and 22 October 2014.
Land agent Graham Ryder has visited Brookfield to give David and Ruth an estimate … How much?!
FOUR AND A HALF MILLION POUNDS? FOR A FICTIONAL FARM?? *becomes a fictional farmer* #thearchers (@sarahgailbrand on Twitter)
Over in New York Donald Trump sits bolt upright in bed 'Get me Brookfield!' (Jason Williams on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
We could crowd source £4.5million easy. Don't 5 million people listen to #TheArchers (@kingbagcarrier on Twitter)
I'm hoping David and Ruth's principles are challenged by a bidding war that prompts BL to offer them £5M plus. Take the money and run? (Duncan Willis on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Is Brian going to make an offer on Brookfield? #thearchers (@iowaauthor on Twitter)
#thearchers Justin could be persuaded to go to £5.5 million. David, give him a call. @BBCTheArchers (@kins_Stephen on Twitter)
Listeners are divided over Brookfield’s future – some are worried about Jill, Heather and David… and most are cross with Ruth
Jill, you wet lettuce. It's your life! You'll have 3 kids in one place, and only 1 elsewhere. Hard choice but yours alone. (@Vintage_Maggie on Twitter)
I can imagine Jill and Carol living together - drinking sherry and playing bridge? (Helen Ripley on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Not sure Ruth fully understands what she’s asking David to do. #thearchers (@Annette1Hardy on Twitter)
"You don't sound sure" she says to David as Graham Ryder (good to hear from him) discusses carving up the land that has been in his family for generations. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER??! (Penny Hassack on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Ruth: listen to the Brookfield History. David is just the temporary custodian of the farm. Take him away from the farm & you'll break him, & he'll hate you for it. You are unworthy of the Brookfield Farmer's Wife crown! (Maggie Mumford on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
David needs a bit of backbone, and Ma in law needs to stop being so selfish-if she needs help, SHE should move , not expect a whole family with a farm going back generations, to up sticks ? really it's completely ridiculous! (ann on The Archers blog)
Deevid is right to make Ruth "think about it" But Ruth should remind him that her mother is poorly No contest.#thearchers (@Odicean on Twitter)
What a nightmare for Heather to suddenly find they've transported a whole farm plus (if they have their way) a rival MiL to be near her when she thought she was safe from all that moaning and smothering. If that lot wouldn't send her to a premature grave I don't know what would. (cath on The Archers blog)
Selling Brookfield now because the road might go through it or that they will be needed to look after Heather indefinitely are not sound bases to sell a farm worth £4 or £5m so quickly. Any way I wonder whether it is that easy to start farming again in a part of the country where the conditions could be very different. My guess is that it's just not simply like moving house. (Michael Dewey on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
I can't believe this story line. David Archer would Never leave Brookfield. Been listening to the Archers forever, marched upstairs to bed to the dumpty dumpty tune! (Teresa Murray on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Many wiped a tear from their eye after Joe’s visit to Brookfield to commiserate – he knows what it’s like to have and lose land
Joe Grundy is rather a legend... #thearchers (@potterwigham on Twitter)
oh Joe Grundy you have made me cry too! What a lovely character you are!@BBCTheArchers (@hotcook1965 on Twitter)
It fair brought a lump to my throat. (Doreen Edmands on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Joe and Carol are a breath of fresh air! And thank you Joe, perhaps now Mr and Mrs Oblivious, aka David and Ruth, will realize that they are being very foolish and inconsiderate. (Martine Meeks on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Roy’s had a tough week – though he’s elicited little sympathy after turning up at Home Farm to talk to Phoebe
Can I sit down? No Roy. You'd slime off the bed you spineless moron #thearchers (@safudgiephon on Twitter)
Hell hath no fury like a teenage girl who is mad at her dad, Roy. #thearchers (@HelenRuthChild on Twitter)
Huge respect for Phoebe. Just HUGE. #thearchers (@jtwentyman on Twitter)
Really enjoyed Phoebe reading the riot act to her father, about time someone told the fool the truth.. Anyone who has been unfortunate enough to have a spouse who has dabbled in an extra-marital activities will be cringing at his pathetic attempts at salvaging his former life. Yeah Phoebe you're going to be a strong woman. (Angela Williams on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Poor Roy. Surely everyone gets tempted sometimes? The trick is not to be found out. I wish his daughter would stop being so selfish and grow up. (Janetta Dalton-Sedgwick on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
@BBCTheArchers "stop screwing around with that ancient tart!" Pheebs you legend. Tentgate rumbles on #thearchers (@Robbie87uk on Twitter)
I was wondering which bit Elizabeth would be more offended by: the "middle-aged" or the "tart." (Lucy McGough on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Gosh. That sounded pretty definite from Phoebe. Fair enough though when it took Roy months to remember she was there at all. #thearchers (@TheVintageYear on Twitter)
And many were bemused by Brian stepping up to give Roy advice
Brian is surely the worst person to be advising Roy #thearchers (@Journojacko on Twitter)
Brian is a piece of work isn't he? He is actually condoning what Roy has done! Just because you have a doormat of a wife Brian doesn't mean Hayley will put up with that behaviour!! (Sue Pidgeon on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
In advising Roy Brian fails to note that Jennifer had a much better standard of living to lose than Hayley does #thearchers@BBCTheArchers (@AnneLiddon on Twitter)
Roy, typical cheat turning to another cheat for 'moral' (cough) support. and no Brian we haven't all been there! Just because Jenny surrendered all sense of pride and self respect in return for your bank balance does not mean every woman thinks with her purse! (Moira Hunter-Liddle on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Give it time and underfloor heating, Roy. #thearchers (@FlightyRachel on Twitter)
I think this is very sweet of Brine, Actually. *ducks* #thearchers (@MsAlliance on Twitter)
Eddie’s big plans for Christmas – will they out-do Lynda’s planned one woman show?
Hurrah! Christmas show is back :) Love Linda #thearchers@BBCTheArchers (@Massie68 on Twitter)
#thearchers please put Linda's one woman show on for real in an actual theatre played in character like the Alan Bennett monologues (@dawntigga on Twitter)
The Grundy Christmas sounds AMAZING! I want in. There's no way Lynda's one woman show will beat that. #thearchers (@janewright on Twitter)
The Grundys are so creative. They deserve success. Ed should be writing the pantomime! Two tickets please Ed! How much? (Lynda Everington on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
The Grundies are on fire tonight. (@markravenhill on Twitter)
The Grundys ..... worth my licence fee right there! Genius indeed and I love em all! Cracker of an episode #thearchers (@Ker1w on Twitter)
#thearchers Would love to see Roy asking a Grundy turkey if he & Lizzie have a future (@IanTrukka66 on Twitter)
