The Archers - latest listener discussions on social media.
Hurray for Joe Grundy, 93! Listeners appreciated his wise words this week. There was some delight as Roy was made to squirm in front of Usha. Whereas Helen and Fallon have had most shouting at the radio…
Here’s my pick of the listener discussions between 18 and 24 September 2014
Happy Birthday Joe, 93! Listeners enjoyed hearing from the elder Grundy and felt that he had a point about why the River Am was running brown.
@BBCTheArchers Grundy cider, the secret to longevity #happy birthday Joe, 93yrs young (@LadyLich on Twitter)
Can we stop saying Joe is 92 now?#thearchers (@Anne_O on Twitter)
JOE! Yes indeedy, 'twas a wunnerful thing to hear his dulcet tones, chatting to Bartleby and being sweet with Ed, a nice change to hear a bit o'pleasantness - thanks, scripties! (Nick Meers on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
THE AM IS RUNNING BROWN! Isn't that in Nostradamus somewhere? #thearchers (@Mudkipstoat23 on Twitter)
Joe Grundy got exactly what he wanted. A massive flood destroying all those privileged toffs land #TheArchers (@kingbagcarrier on Twitter)
@BBCTheArchers Joe might have been an old rogue in his time, but he knows the land, the weather & farming. Old ways can be good. (@Tales4All on Twitter)
By far the biggest debate was about Roy and Elizabeth. Many think Elizabeth could be in hot water legally after letting Roy go, and most were delighted that Roy had been made to feel uncomfortable in front of Usha…
The Roy/Elizabeth saga is shaping up nicely now we're past the sickly darling stuff and into the recriminations. I'm thoroughly enjoying it as they're both equally ghastly in different ways. (cath on The Archers blog)
Are you allowed to offer someone's job when they're still in post? #thearchers (@Felix_keeps_on on Twitter)
Roy was a fool (and deserves everything Hayley throws at him) but my lord Lizzie is a selfish cow! Screwing Roy yet again. Bad move. I'm sure Roy knows where all the skeletons are burried at LL. (Martin Bennett on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
#thearchers lizzy is in her rights - very little employment protection these days! Roy will get a very rude awakening if he goes to law! (@voiceofbramley on Twitter)
MAKE HER PAY, ROY. The last exactly how she treated you: as a gigolo. #TheArchers (@MsAlliance on Twitter)
Ooooh, now there's revenge. May as well pop by Susan and tell her the gossip after you're done with Usha. #thearchers#allroundthevillage(@ginandcrumpets on Twitter)
I can see Usha's mouth all puckered up #TheArchers (@hugzee on Twitter)
My heart is breaking for Hayley… If only she knew that last week Woy was prepared to leave her and the girls and was declaring his undying love for Elizabeth and it was in fact Elizabeth who ended it all. He isn't worth wasting your breath on Hayley (Joyce Jennings on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
I am not sure the marriage should be mended - unless for the sake of the children perhaps. I hope Hayley wouldn't lose herself and her self-respect in the process. She already feels second-best (Trisha Lesley McCarthy on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
If she left him, would: could she take Phoebe, who is not hers? (Tina Cullen on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
They should hope the press doesn't get hold of it .. I can imagine the headline in a Tabloid - maybe on a quiet day: "Bonked by Boss then Binned .." (JoinedPeetsBoard_Smeesues_too on The Archers blog)
News that Carol Tregorran was returning to Ambridge was greeted with cheers and a little trepidation.
Aha! Liking hearing Jennifer dahling squirm at the prospect of Carole coming to Ambridge! (Sue Pidgeon on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Carol Tregorran is, essentially, the voice of the listener, isn't she? #thearchers (@Jo_dB on Twitter)
OMG SHE HAS A SECRET PAST this just keeps getting better #thearchers (@cheeahs on Twitter)
I thought Carol was horrible & cruel when she referred to Jenny bringing up Brian’s son from his affair with Siobhan. Nasty opinionated old bat. (Maggie Vella on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
I hope she lives a long and eventful life in Ambridge ~ stirring things up and being a great and fun companion for Peggy, Jill, Caroline and Christine (should those two ever appear in public again)… At my advanced age it would be great to hear some lively ladies above a certain age! (Jean Bell on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
Over at the Hunt, some listeners predicted (hoped for?) a disaster. Most think that Rob is manipulating Helen
The last thing in Pandora's box was hope. Perhaps the horse will kick Rob in the head and set Helen free from his baleful sway #TheArchers (@SarahSkelding on Twitter)
I just called Borchester General, they're expecting Helen in exactly 19 minutes. #thearchers (@olympians on Twitter)
@BBCTheArchers "when robs happy I’m happy" FGS sake helen 50 years of feminism down the drain (@aandy1959 on Twitter)
Pat and Tony are so enamoured with having Jonny there, that they cannot see what is happening to their daughter. (Sue Dunckley on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
When will Helen see what a slime ball Rob is, can't believe she's that daft. She's supposed to be an intelligent woman. (Jennifer Martin on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make Helen think #thearchers (@andydmakethetea on Twitter)
And so to Fallon – many felt that her treatment of poor (or creepy) Harrison Burns was bad form
Dumping by text? Oh, you're a classy girl, Fallon. #thearchers (@AckleyLewis on Twitter)
She thought of him as a mate, he wanted more. His persistence would be really annoying in real life. She owes him nothing. (Fran Renwick on BBC The Archers Facebook page)
I hope that Fallon feels bad ... When Harri (as I call him!) told her that he had expected better from her, I thought of Mr Knightley telling Emma that "It was badly done..". (Anna Court on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
Come on Fallon. Let's have a real (simple, straightforward) wedding that actually takes place. Something to cheer us up!!!! (Cythia Sanderson on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
Fallon getting married to Jazzer, you mean? (Moragh Mason on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
Jazzer is a great character and I'd be happy to spend an evening in the Bull with him, but he is definitely not husband material. Although the love of a good woman might tempt him to dwindle into a husband! (Sue Dunckley on Archers Addicts Facebook group)
