Snowdrops, crocuses and daffs

Well we are hoping for signs are we not? Weather man John Hammond said last week we were all desperate for signs that winter was over. Any temperature higher than zero is a cause for high-5s and a chocolate digestive so this week is ok so far. Pass the tin. A weekend of coughs and sneezes and spreading diseases here, so if we don’t need to walk into a winter wonderland, that’s a bonus right there. Rebecca was off with the bug on Friday, I’ve been spluttering as you may have noticed and only Matt is holding out as a beacon of health and vitality. That starving thing must be working somehow.

Book club time today with Etta and Otto and Russell and James, a debut from Emma Hooper. Etta is 82 and has decided to leave her Saskatchwan farm and Otto her husband, to walk to the sea which is many hundreds of miles away. Otto is left behind and we learn lots in flashback about his vast family. And then there’s the talking jackal…

And we’ll do NOT OLD oldies. It’s true, we’re not old anymore. A government adviser has said that most people in their 60s will/are not be old ‘in the conventional sense’ but enjoying ‘a golden age of health’. So NOT GETTING OLD oldies will cheer us into the night.

Time for the denim shorts maybe...
