Put that light out

Very relaxed here. No trains, no schools no interviews today. Trouble is that means it's time to look at paperwork, and the tyranny that is unopened post. Most of it is rubbish or unpleasant - remember when you looked forward to the post arriving? That was a long time ago. I was away from home only 24 hours but what a collection of menus and minicab flyers have arrived since I left!We could have bonfire night a few weeks early here.

Well John Lydon seems to have gone down well. I hadn't met him before so was unsure how it would all pan out. He is only the second person I've interviewed to insist on having someone sit in the interview with him. We suggested he leave but he wasn't going anywhere. I figured if it made the guest happier he could stay but thought it unusual. I told him that the last person to insist on an in-studio friend was the Chief Rabbi. He wasn't quite sure how to take that. Anyway it all came good in the end.

Nigel doing something with partridge and sherry today and how about DADS ARMY oldies please. Bill Nighy told us a couple of weeks ago he was playing Sergeant Wilson and now we know it also stars Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring, Tom Courtney as Corporal Jones and Michael Gambon as Private Godfrey. Top casting! Also Catherine Zeta Jones but not as Godfrey's sister Dolly apparently. I hope there's an ARP warden, a verger and a weedy vicar somewhere in there. What a show it was and there always seems to be an episode you missed first time around. So Dads Army tunes please!

Fall in at 5.
