Andrew Manze makes his debut
On 4 November Andrew Manze the BBC SSO's new Associate Guest Conductor makes his debut in the role with a cracking concert featuring music by Brahms and Mozart, and a world premiere by Scottish composer Sally Beamish.
We caught up with Andrew earlier in the year for an exclusive interview about the programme for this concert. He gave us an idea of what to expect, along with an insight into what it's like to conduct with the BBC SSO.
Andrew is also one of the foremost baroque violinists in the world, but these days he's known mainly as a conductor. As well as his new role with the BBC SSO, he's also Principal Conductor of the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Sweden, Principal Guest Conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and has close relationships with leading orchestras all over the world. If that wasn't enough, he's also a fellow of the Royal Academy of Music and a Visiting Professor at the Oslo Academy.
And on top of that, as you'll see, he's a born communicator. It's great to meet someone who's passion for great music making shines through everything he does. Oh, and he's a thoroughly nice guy too.
