Lee Hope

Lee Hope

Lee doesn't know where his life began. He does know that he was removed from his birth mother within hours and placed for adoption. Lee's middle class adopted parents weren't the warmest and he was sent to a good Scottish private boarding school. As a teenager he rebelled, dropped out of school and fell out with his parents, from whom he is now estranged.

Since his early childhood Lee has used playing the fool and acting up as an armour. This is an attempt to make himself lovable and to hide his inner pain. Lee's been pretending so long he's almost succeeded in forgetting why. The sense of rejection that he's carried from a very young age lies deep within him and motivates his decisions.

After school Lee drifted to London and fell in with a group of boys much like him. He enjoyed the clubs and drugs, and tried his hand at acting. He picked up the odd day here and there as a model. However when his love of night-life made him unreliable he got dropped by his agency. Lee's coke habit introduced him to a much dodgier element in the club scene. Lee's parents despaired and, in an attempt to force him to take some responsibility, they cut him off financially. Proud Lee refused to beg, or indeed behave, and has not spoken to his mother or father since. When the money ran out Lee took up a friend's offer to sleep on his floor in Glasgow.

When Lee met Lenny Murdoch it was an encounter that changed his life forever. Lenny needed an actor to play the role of son to his beloved wife Lydia. Lee was in need of a job but, more than that, he needed a family. What started out as a quick money-making scheme turned into something more for Lee as he realised that this was more than an acting gig. It became a chance for Lee to claim what he had never had - a family.

Actor: James Palmer
