Christina was born in the Ukraine but has lived in Scotland from a young age and has lost all trace of her accent. Christina is a bright, quick-thinking kid, and - at only 15 - appears to be emotionally and practically self-sufficient; the archetypal 'old head on young shoulders'. Her relationship with mum Tatiana often seems reversed - Christina is the responsible parent and Tatiana is the flighty teenager. However being the more sensible member of the family has taken its toll and she's tired of moving from place to place. She sees academic achievement as the key to a brighter future and is determined to see out her education in Scotland.
Christina often becomes exasperated with her mum but she will fiercely defend her when challenged. She has a very feisty streak and will fight for what she believes in using her wits and extensive vocabulary. She's well read and this can often help her get one up in arguments. However, she is still young and should learn to pick her battles more wisely.
Christina arrived in Shieldinch after she and her mum were thrown out of the flat they shared in Oban. She is forced to gate crash her mum's little love nest with new boyfriend Big Bob, and isn't surprised to learn that Tatiana failed to mention her daughter's existence to her new man. After a shaky start, Big Bob welcomes both Tatiana and Christina into his home - much to the annoyance of his mother Molly. As a bookish loner with a sharp tongue, Christina has never found it easy to connect with people. She sees a possible friend in Nicole Brodie, but can chalk and cheese ever learn to get along?
Christina is left in Glasgow with Molly and Big Bob when Tatiana heads off to the Ukraine to get a divorce from her husband. She's far from happy with this plan to begin with but as time goes by could Christina finally have found the family and roots that she's always craved?
