Amber Murdoch

Amber Murdoch

Actress: Lorna Anderson

Amber has, until recently, led a fairly charmed life. Or at least that's how it looks from a distance. The apple of her father's eye, Amber has been denied nothing in her eighteen years. Nothing except a firm hand and a little understanding that is. Lenny might think Amber is a wee doll but there is a lot more to her than that. You see, Amber has been busy growing up while Lenny wasn't looking and to treat this young woman as a little girl is a big mistake. Amber is a fun loving party girl but she's easily bored. A lover of attention, any attention, Amber is aware that she has her Dad's love but he's never really given her his full concentration.

Amber was educated privately away from home. Yes, it was done in her best interests but Amber felt banished, like maybe she was too much trouble. Deep down Amber often feels like she's too much trouble. Unhappy and unstimulated at school, Amber ran away from school and convinced Lenny to let her stay at home. She hit Shieldinch like a hurricane and caused a whole lot of bother between Jamie and Nicki. Amber's relationship with Lydia is a little difficult. It's all too easy for Amber to twist Lenny around her little finger and have any ruling by Lydia overturned. Having said all of that Amber is not a nasty girl.

Amber's grown into a good friend to Nicki and her job at the salon, with the little independence it brings, has given her a more grown-up outlook. Amber still likes her own way and she quite likes a bit of a rammie, you could even say she's a little stirrer.

Amber was the product of an extra marital affair. When Lydia fell pregnant Lenny was still married to first wife, Mary. The discovery of this shook Amber's faith in her parents to the core.

Amber was shocked when she found out that her close friend Jen was actually in love with her, as was Jen's brother Charlie. After some awkwardness all three managed to maintain their friendship. Lenny's attempt to 'fix' the Murdoch family involved bringing Lee, Lydia's long-lost 'son', into the fold. Amber was surprised when she started to develop feelings for Lee, who she believed to be her half-brother. Lenny had chosen Lee to act as Lydia's son, in a ham-fisted attempt to avoid Lydia finding out that her real son was dead. Amber was greatly relieved when it was revealed that she was not related to Lee after all.

Amber's faith in her mum and dad was shattered when her big brother Ewan was killed. She was distraught to find out that Lenny was involved in his death. It was a turbulent time, as she didn't know who to believe - Lydia or Lenny. She took the brave decision to disown both her parents in light of the tragedy. Amber was left alone in Shieldinch, and despite the support of her friends, she missed the support of Lee, whom she'd grown close to. When he returned to Shieldinch she began to recover - but at great cost as Lee and Amber's relationship took a sinister turn.
