Exclusive snippet of script!

Julie|17:33 UK time, Friday, 30 May 2008

It's been a funny day in Shieldinch, with a bit of a 'last day of term' atmosphere, as the cast and crew wrap for the summer. They'll be back in August but, as ever, they've been working extra hard for the last few months so you'll still get your weekly fix of River City.

In the studio, tensions have been running high for some of your favourite characters. As a special treat, here's an exclusive snippet of a scene that's just been shot:

SHIRLEY (shouts) : Get an ambulance. Now!

SHIRLEY RUSHES FORWARD AND IS ROOTED TO THE SPOT.

SCOTT : No... No...

RUTH IS ON THE FLOOR, DRENCHED IN SWEAT, HER HAIR STICKING TO HER FACE, HEAD TURNED SIDEWAYS, STARING INTO SPACE. SCOTT KNEELS BESIDE HER.

SCOTT : Ruth... It's me... I'm here.

SHIRLEY : Scott...

SCOTT LOOKS AT SHIRLEY AND WE SEE REALISATION AND SHOCK IN HIS FACE.

That's all we can tell you for now! That won't be seen on screen until September so keep watching to see how the story unfolds...

Chris Brazier and David Gest

Julie|13:35 UK time, Thursday, 29 May 2008

To be honest, the only thing connecting Chris Brazier and David Gest is the Daily Record. Thankfully. You can read a great interview with Chris, who plays Ewan, on the paper's website now. We particularly like the fact he used this very website to research the show :)

As for David Gest... apparently he's hankering after a role in River City. Again, you can read about that in this story. What do you think? Do you want to see Michael Jackson's best friend in Shieldinch? Tell us on the messageboard!

Today's activity on the set

Julie|16:49 UK time, Monday, 26 May 2008

Some of you might be enjoying a bank holiday off today but it's awfully busy in Shieldinch. The entire cast have gathered together for a brand new group photo. There are two photographers on set, snapping away, and we'll be able to reveal the results to you soon. It's actually rare to see everyone in one place. It's also rare to have the sun shining so brightly so it's quite a special day!

We can tell you that there's one new cast member in the photo you have yet to see on screen... we might be allowed to spill the beans about him/her soon.

Lesley Milton, the competition winner who named the boutique 'Hola', has just had a personal tour of the set with her pal, Karen. The pair met Jacqueline, who plays Lydia, and had their photo taken. We'll share those pics with you tomorrow.

Oh, and on top of all that, the team are shooting episodes that will be seen in September. It's all go!

Alfie

Julie|18:26 UK time, Wednesday, 7 May 2008

Alfie (the real life Alfie) would like you to know that he's very much alive and kicking so we thought we'd share a few facts with you.

Jimmy's Alfie was originally meant to be called Dolly! Named after Ms Parton, the dog was obviously meant to be female. However, when Alfie was discovered by Casting his gender, needless to say, meant a name change. Alfie is the dog's real name!

Alfie and his owner, Rachel, loved the experience and he's been recognised loads since appearing in River City!

The TV team loved working with him, too, and were sorry to see him go. The original intention was to keep Alfie around for longer but storyline changes meant his time had to be cut short. The Executive Producer, Sandra, sings his praises as a brilliant acting dog!

Alfie the dog, played by Alfie the dog

When Alfie (the TV character) was ill, Jimmy didn't want to take him to the SSPCA or the vet because he was worried the dog would be put down. We want to assure everyone that this was the view of Jimmy and not of the BBC! The story is, of course, fictional and Jimmy just panicked. As it turned out, poor Alfie really wasn't well at all and, in his anxiety to get Alfie better quickly, Jimmy chose the most expensive option. Apart from anything else, he saw Alfie as a kindred spirit - Jimmy is determined to walk again and he wanted to do all he could to get his dog back on his feet.

Obviously, in real life, if your pet is unwell the PDSA and the SSPCA would do everything they could to help you get treatment so you needn't fear a £3000 vet bill!

You might also like to know that Alfie the actor was a rescue dog. A lady found him, seemingly abandoned in a park, and took him to the vet. Luckily, he got a clean bill of health but nobody had reported him missing so he was taken in by Rachel, who used to work with Greyhound Rescue - they look after hundreds of dogs a year when they're abandoned after retiring from racing. The registered owner (on his microchip) failed to respond to any communication so Alfie now lives happily with Rachel and more than 20 other dogs!

So, in real life there's a happy ending. As for the storyline, Alfie's death has given Jimmy a bit of a setback in his progress and, after paying for Alfie's operation, Bob's now under pressure. You'll see that unfold over the next few weeks...

Jason Merrells joins the team

Julie|12:19 UK time, Thursday, 1 May 2008

Jason Merrells, from Waterloo Road and Cutting It, has joined River City! However, you won't be able to see him on screen. Instead, he's found a new home behind the camera and is enjoying directing life in Shieldinch.

One of his first tasks was to direct a fight scene between Ewan and Lenny, which you'll be able to see on screen in August.
