Twenty-first birthdays are famously good excuses for a big old party -– well, this year the London Jazz Festival is celebrating its coming of age and boy, have we got an extravaganza lined up! This Friday night we've a special show live from Ronnie's Scott's club in Soho to kick off the festivities, with four brilliant and contrasting groups from around the world, including flavours of funk, latin, a Norwegian bass legend, and the winners of the MOBO award for 'Best Jazz Act 2013'.

The avant-jazz-funk combination of Medeski Martin & Wood will be kicking off the show – a long running US organ trio who certainly know how to get a room grooving. Then, one of the UK's hottest bands of the moment: Sons of Kemet, whose two drummers, one tuba and the saxophone of leader Shabaka Hutchings, will bring heavy carnival flavours to the party.

Norwegian jazz legend Arild Andersen has been one of Europe's leading bass players for over 30 years and will be gracing our stage with his stunning acoustic trio, featuring Scottish saxophonist Tommy Smith and French drummer Patrice Héral. To close the show Cuban-born percussionist Pedrito Martínez and his group deliver Latin flavours keep the celebrations running long into the night.

After a weekend off to recover we're straight back in our regular slot on Monday 18^th November, with another specially curated event – Adventures In Sound – our annual improvisation jamboree featuring short sets and one-off collaborations between improvisers from diverse musical backgrounds. This year's line-up includes British electronics magician Leafcutter John, Manchester-based guitarist Anton Hunter, Swiss beatboxing-vocalist Andreas Schaerer, and American drummer Jeff Williams among others.
