Dacorum Community Choir already has a 70-strong membership since founding in 2009 who meet in Hertfordshire. Their Community Music grant was put towards new rehearsals and workshops resulting in the coming together of professional forces with amateur forces of all ages.

Who are the Dacorum Community Choir?

A community choir with no auditions; open to everyone in Dacorum over the age of 16, bringing all kinds of music to audiences right across our local area.

How did the BBC Performing Art Fund Community Music grant help the group?

It kick-started our project to bring a community opera to Dacorum, combining our adult choir with a children’s chorus and professional soloists and musicians.

Tell us about the best day the Dacorum Community Choir has had to date?

Our final performance of the opera. To a full house, with the applause telling us we had achieved everything we set out to do. It was an occasion the choir, the children, and the professionals will remember for a long time.

What was the best reaction from the group when they found out about winning the BBC PAF grant?

The reaction was “Wow! The hard work starts now!”

Give us 3 words that describe a performance by the Dacorum Community Choir

Musical, enjoyable and fun.
