During my student days I spent any Saturday afternoon when I wasn't following Bradford City around the country glued to the score update and 390 pages on Ceefax.
So when the opportunity arose for me to ply my trade updating those pages as a freelancer, it made perfect sense.
That was back in 2002.
In the last six years, I've worked on just about every part of BBC Sport Interactive's output from news and feature writing, to match reporting and helping develop 606.
I'm now part of the Olympics team and among other things, I will help keep this blog ticking over.
It's the perfect antidote to my other life where I'm usually saving the universe from the evil Emperor Zurg as Buzz Lightyear.
Did I mention I have two young sons to keep entertained?
To Beijing...and beyond.
