#Peel6Music - help create the ultimate John Peel playlist

Kellie Redmond

Radio producer

This Sunday (31 August) Now Playing wants your help to create the ultimate John Peel playlist as we celebrate the man and the music he championed.

What tracks must be in Now Playing @6Music's ultimate John Peel playlist?

30 August would have marked the 75th birthday of the inimitable DJ, who sadly passed away 10 years ago this coming October after a heart attack.

His now legendary Peel Sessions have given a platform to more than two thousand acts: from David Bowie and Led Zeppelin, through to The Undertones, Misty In Roots, The Fall, Nirvana, Pulp, The White Stripes - and beyond.

So what tracks must we feature in our special #Peel6Music show that reflects and celebrates his legacy? It’s up to you.

You could go for:
  • Your favourite Peel Session track
  • One of the many acts that featured in his Festive 50s
  • Artists from his Dandelion Records or Strange Fruit labels

….or any other interesting music link you can think of to help create an unmissable playlist.

Now Playing’s master of ceremonies Tom Robinson will also be sharing his own memories, including receiving replies to his letters as a young music fan from Peel. Tom later performed his own Peel Session in the 1970s, and went on to become good friends with the DJ.

Plus the show will also feature some special archive, including John Peel in his own words along with clips from some of the artists whose careers he helped.

Send in your song suggestions - and importantly your reasons for your choice – via Twitter using #Peel6Music, post below this blog or on the 6 Music or Now Playing Facebook pages, drag tracks onto the show's collaborative Spotify playlist or email [email protected]
