Sampling has been big in the news this week. Robin Thicke’s ‘Blurred Lines’ versus Marvin Gaye’s ‘Got To Give It Up’ has made worldwide headlines and contributed to the old debate of what is constituted as sampling, what is purely coincidental and what is just plain old plagiarising.
So that got us thinking, wouldn’t it be fun to do a whole show based on copycat songs, samples that go beyond the pale and blatant rip-offs? (Please note we’re not out to shop any artists and demand they cough-up royalties…its just a bit of fun).
Tom Robinson requires your picks for songs that are similar, cheeky musical excerpts that sound uncannily like another track, famous cases where an artist has been wrapped over the knuckles for plagiarism or perhaps it’s a chance to unearth a hugely popular sample and play the original you didn’t know existed.

The choices are limitless – any artist of any genre. If you think it deserves a spin, we’ll do our best to play it this Sunday (15 March, 6-8pm).
Ever noticed the glaring similarities between Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ and Albert Hammond / Mike Hazlewood's ‘The Air That I Breathe’? Ever questioned the successful lawsuit over Huey Lewis & The News’ ‘I Want a New Drug’ and Ray Parker Jr’s ‘Ghostbusters’? Or maybe you’re among the millions who regularly compare The Jam's 'Start!' to The Beatles’ ‘Taxman’ like no one ever thought of that before.
