#NorthEast6Music – What's on your North East music playlist?

Dan Cocker

Producer

On Sunday’s Now Playing (6-8pm) we’re celebrating the vibrancy of one of Britain’s brightest music scenes – the mighty North East.

From the bracing winds that hurtle-in off the Lindisfarne coast, to the dramatic milieu of Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and Middlesbrough, this plucky region breeds stout fellows and intensely creative artists, which is clearly why we’ve chosen the North East to host next weekend’s 6 Music Festival.

The North East can boast million-selling bands, iconic solo performers and even a 6 Music presenter amongst its musical alumni.

So whether it’s Geordie, Mackem, Smoggy, Poolie, Pit Yacker, Sand Dancer or Doggie, Tom Robinson wants YOU to compile the canniest North East-inspired playlist.

Anything from icons such as Bryan Ferry, Dire Straits, The Animals, Chris Rea, Paul Rodgers, Prefab Sprout and AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, to relative bairns Maxïmo Park, The Futureheads and Field Music.

Bonus points for suggesting Ant & Dec or indeed Cheryl Fernandez-Versini.

Get your North East-inspired suggestions to Tom via the hashtag #NorthEast6Music to help create a playlist. Comment on the Now Playing Facebook page, here on the blog, email nowplaying@bbc.co.uk or drag tracks onto our Spotify and Rdio playlists.
