Over the next seven days you won’t be able to escape blogs and music authorities on Twitter discussing, debating and most probably arguing about who should be nominated for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2013 when the list is revealed on September 11.

In what’s regarded as one of the most difficult awards to pick, the bookies are already setting David Bowie’sThe Next Day, Foals’Holy Fire and London Grammar’s debut If You Wait as some of the early front runners.

But what we want to know is who do you think deserves to be nominated, and go on to win the coveted gong?

This is the criteria they need to meet:

  • The albums must be from British and Irish artists
  • They must have been released between September 11, 2012 and September 9, 2013

What do you think deserves to carry the baton from Alt-J and their 2012 success with An Awesome Wave, and continue a longstanding tradition of fantastic long players from Primal Scream, Pulp, Arctic Monkeys and the only two time winner, PJ Harvey?

As always you pick the music, so let us know what you want to hear by leaving a comment here or on our Facebook page, Tweet #Mercury6Music, send us an email with your suggestion and reason to nowplaying@bbc.co.uk or add tracks to our collaborative Spotify or Rdio playlists.
