#Folk6Music - What tracks should be on our folk playlist?

Dan Cocker

Producer

It’s all about folk on Sunday’s Now Playing (6-8pm) when we’ll continue 6 Music’s Easter folk celebrations with two hours of YOUR folkie song choices.

With folk rock band The Decemberists taking care of business on Good Friday, then The Unthanks curating 6 Music’s output on Monday evening, this week’s Now Playing provides the listener-sourced filling in a Sunday folk sandwich.

As well as this glorious station celebrating folk with two of the finest exponents of the genre, folk is in the news elsewhere at the moment. Sufjan Stevens is set to release what everyone is saying is his masterpiece album ‘Carrie & Lowell’ on Monday, and of course our thoughts are with the legendary and irreplaceable Joni Mitchell who sadly fell ill this week. Get well soon, Joni!

So with folk on the tip of tongues this week, whom will you choose to include in Sunday’s decisive folk playlist?

You could choose some of your favourite contemporary folk artists like Seth Lakeman, Eliza Carthy, Frank Turner, Bon Iver, Bright Eyes, Great Lake Swimmers or Fleet Foxes

Why not suggest any number of the founding mothers and fathers of folk, like Pete Seeger, Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Neil Young and of course the aforementioned Joni Mitchell.

Or how about artists who’ve been inspired by the ideas of storytelling in their work, from The Streets to Arctic Monkeys, Kate Nash or Jay-Z.

You pick the music, so get your folk-inspired suggestions to Tom via the hashtag #Folk6Music to help create a playlist. Comment on the Now Playing Facebook page, here on the blog, email [email protected] or drag tracks onto our Spotify and Rdio playlists.
