#Cassette6Music – Create a virtual cassette jukebox, for real this time

On this Sunday’s show (15 November) we’re celebrating the rebirth of the oft-maligned cassette tape.
Cassettes are sooooo ‘in’ right now, and the humble C60 is making a comeback in a big, hipster way. This week, Kurt Cobain’s ‘Montage of Heck’ was released on cassette (as well as other formats), tipping the cap to how Kurt used to compile his home recordings and mixtapes in the ‘90s.
Also this week, feuding grown-up-but-still-teenage noiseniks Blink 182 announced that they are releasing four classic albums on brand new shiny cassette, complete with new artwork and bespoke cassette packaging.
Online music sites and bloggers are getting hip to the latest physical reincarnation of this music format, and more labels (Polydor, Domino as well as indies) are releasing music on cassettes, mainly due a rise in popularity by nostalgists, but also thanks to a hark back to the glory days of home taping and the joy of listening to tapes in your old motor.

So this week, Now Playing becomes a virtual jukebox for YOUR prized cassettes. Tom Robinson wants you to send in a photo of yourself with your beloved cassette plus the name of the track you’d like us to play from it and why – for a place in our cassette celebration playlist.
How did you live through the cassette era? How did portable listening change your life? Do you own live bootlegs, have you made or received mixtapes, did you ever hold your old cassette deck up to the telly to record something off TV? We want to know about it!
Get YOUR tape suggestions to Tom – including the reasons WHY - via the hashtag #Cassette6Music, to help create a playlist. Comment on the Now Playing Facebook page, here on the blog, email nowplaying@6music.co.uk or drag tracks onto our Spotify and Rdio playlists.
